Outlook email question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: Outlook email question
By Reds9298 on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 - 10:22 pm:

How can I make it so that links sent to me in emails are clickable? Since I've gotten some Windows updates (over the last few months) my clickable links are no longer clickable. Then, if there's no cut and paste link, I'm just SOL. I've been through (I think) every option in outlook and can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated!
(I have a clickable coupon through Snapfish and can't retrieve it!!Arrggh.)
Thanks if anyone can help or give suggestions.:)

I found this, on the Call for Help website:

Opening Links in Outlook

Q: Outlook won't open URLs that are found in the body of an email. This works on his desktop but not his laptop, he has coordinated the settings but to no avail.

Actually, the links not being clickable may be a good thing: phishers can actually use links embedded within emails to redirect you to a different site designed to scam you. Security software may be automatically de-linkifying the links specifically to protect you. If you really need to get at the link, because it's something you were expecting, what you should do is manually retyping the link yourself. If you're not sure about it, don't go to the link.
For the links to be clickable you must have a default web browser (try Microsoft's own Internet Explorer first although it should work fine even with Firefox). You also need to have the proper file associations for web links.

Open Windows Explorer and click Tools>Folder options>File types. Select "HTML" extension. The box titled "Details for HTML extension" should say that it opens with IE. If it does, click on "Advanced" and verify that the default action is "open."

You may also have security software that is preventing clicking links in email since that's a very dangerous thing to do. Most phishing scams depend on you clicking links in the email. Many web page based viruses do too.

Thanks a lot Dawn. I'll try this when I get some time tonight. :)
