I am such a wuss!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: I am such a wuss!
By Debbie on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 10:16 am:

This morning when I got up, I knew there was a mouse stuck to one of our sticky traps. I could hear it thrashing around. It was under the cabinet(they are coming in where the cooktop vent is). I just couldn't open the door to look. Dh called, and I told him. He actually came home from work to take care of it. What a guy! Now, I swear, I hear another one. There is no way I am going to call dh. I am trying to get up my nerve to check the trap. Thank God, I am not a single mom. Gosh, I can handle other nasty things, mice just totally freak me out. I think we need the traps that just kill them, then dh can check them when he is home, and I won't have to listen to them.

By Tonya on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 10:18 am:

What do you do with the mice once DH catches them on the sticky traps? Does he release them outside?

By Debbie on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 10:25 am:

The mouse was stuck to the trap, and he couldn't get it off. Dh just put it in a bag and took it to work to put in the dumpster, that is why I want the other traps, they will die right away.

By Luvn29 on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 10:28 am:

Yikes! I couldn't handle knowing they would die like that. I would definitely have to go with the "immediate death" kind of traps if we had to use them.

But I am silly when it comes to animals, insects, etc. I'm the type that rescues insects out of spider webs! LOL! I'm lucky all the spiders don't gang up on me for taking their dinner away!

That's some guy you got there. That was really sweet of him to come home and take care of your little problem!

I thought of you this morning. My herd of farm cats met me at the back door this morning with their latest love offering. Dead field mice. Lots of them. There must have been 20 of them. As long as they are dead, I can handle it. I gave them all their little kitty treats and left them to their feast. I can handle dead ones, live ones are a nightmare.

LOL, I checked. There isn't another one stuck. I think I am just freaked out! We are defintiely going to get the other traps this weekend. And, dh is going to put a screen over the cooktop opening that is outside. The exterminator came yesterday, but he didn't have the screening to put over it. The good news is that he checked the attic, and they are not up there. The only place he could tell they were coming in was the dryer vent and the cooktop vent. Our dryer vent does have the little the screen type thing over it, but it is stuck open. The builder is coming today to fix it. LOL, I told dh he wasn't going out of town until all the mice were gone!

Oh...and Dora, now that would really freak me out!

By Hol on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 12:00 pm:

Adena - I am totally like you. I can't bear to kill anything! I catch spiders and take them outside! :)

By Truestori on Friday, August 25, 2006 - 01:29 pm:

Debbie,

Glad to know someones like me! LOL
I totally freak out when I see mice. I can't handle it. Thankfully none have gotten into our house but between your Dh and exterminators, they should be gone in no time.

Ditto, Hol. Lara and I are always taking little bugs and critters(frogs, lizards) back outside. Lara says "so they can find their moms", lol. We use live traps, too, when necessary.

Hope your mouse problem is soon behind you, Debbie, so you can relax in your new home!

I have no idea, how we would get a hornet, in the house, outside, without killing it! Yikes! Sorry, I'm just not that nice! Hornet stings HURT, so I'm not that sympathetic.

By Hol on Saturday, August 26, 2006 - 02:52 pm:

When we see a bug in the house, we wait for it to land on something, then either grab it in a paper towel or napkin (gently) and release it outside. Spiders are really easy. They usually walk on walls, so you put a glass over the spider, slide a piece of paper under the rim of the glass, and carry "him"/"her" outside. :)

By Annie2 on Saturday, August 26, 2006 - 10:38 pm:

The only creatures I catch and carry outside are geckos. Every other creature either gets sprayed, swatted or a nice view of a rolled up magazine!

By Debbie on Sunday, August 27, 2006 - 09:39 am:

LOL, Annie. Well, we caught 4 mice as of yesterday. There were no dropping in the house this morning, so that is a good sign. Yesterday, dh put wire mesh over the outside vent to our stovetop. So, I am hoping we have blocked their way in.
