Dd funny and her eye appointment

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: Dd funny and her eye appointment
By Shann on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 07:32 pm:

I had to take ds and dd to the eye dr. today. as we are sitting in the room and the nurse is talking to them Dd says Mom I had a nightmare last night and I said you did what was it about. She says I was in this room. The Nurse looks at her and asks what did she say and I told her she got to laughing and told dd that was a first. It was to funny
although we got some not so good news about her eyes she has one eye that has and inlarged nerve. She could of been born that way he says he is not 100% sure he is just going to watch it. I keep asking questions to what it could be and he said that they see it in people with glacoma or it is a syptem of people with glacoma. He said that it is highly unlikely that she has or will get glacoma it has never been seen in children her age. It runs in my family my brother lost his eye sight due to glacoma and diabetes. and my Grandma had surgery to correct hers. It is just a little scary. He said that he wants to see her in a year but I am not sure I want to wait a year. I talked to dh about it and he says to wait 6 months and reschedule. But I would like your alls in put. Would you get a second opinion. or wait. He said her eyes werent bad enought to wear glasses her eyes are a little worse than last time but not enough to wear glasses. My older girls both are far sided and wear glasses and the twins are both far sided but he says they will outgrow it. but the older girls never did.

Are there any symptoms you need to watch for?

By Colette on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 08:33 pm:

I would get a second opinion to put your mind at ease.

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 09:18 pm:

Not sure I understand the joke...but, as far as the eyes are concerned I would get a second opinion.

By Tunnia on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 09:24 pm:

I would also get a second opinion. My dd wears glasses and has since she was about 1 1/2 years old. We love her opthamologist and we completely trust him, but we still got a second opinion from another doctor before we began treatment just to be 100% sure about the diagnosis and treatment options.

BTW, did your dd get the letter my dd sent her a couple of weeks ago? For some reason, my dd is worried that it was lost in the mail.

By Shann on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 09:55 pm:

Stacy She did get Your dd letter she has one written ready to be mailed with them starting school and back to school dr appts I haven't been to the post office to get stamps but I have to go into town tomorrow and stamps are on the top of my list. And I will mail out the letters.

The second opinion sounds like a good idea to me, too.

I'm not sure I understand the joke, either.

By Cat on Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 11:00 pm:

DD-"I had a bad dream,"
Mom-"What was it about?"
DD-"You were in the room."
:)

I think I'd get a second opinion. Couldn't hurt anything. Good luck. :)

Was the doctor an opthalmologist? If not, you really need to see an opthalmologist, preferably one with pediatric experience. Is there any clinic or largish hospital within reasonable distance from you? If so, that's where you want to go for a second opinion, and I agree with the others, a second opinion is a very, very good idea. You know you have a family history of glaucoma, though your brother's was probably tied to his diabetes, and I would be as anxious as you are about the idea of waiting a year. And, my oldest son was farsighted and started wearing glasses at age 3. At 45, he is still wearing glasses and still farsighted, though less so.

No, the joke was this

DD: I had a bad dream (saying this while sitting in the doctor's office)

Mom: What was it about?

DD: I was in this room (the drs. office-as in, this is a nightmare)

I thought the joke was quite cute!

I would get a 2nd opinion. I wouldn't want to mess around with her eyes, especially with your family history.

Luvn, now I get the joke! LOL! It just went way over my head yesterday!
