How much do dentures cost?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: How much do dentures cost?

My mother has literally no teeth left and is in need of a partial on the bottom and a full set of teeth on the top. (She pulled them completely out because they were loose on the bottom. She would need some sort of surgery to put them back. Her upper denture is just too big since she lost a lot of weight since her last stroke.) So, she's in need of a whole new set of teeth.

She only has medicare/medicaid and I'm just starting to look into it all now. Some states cover dental with medicaid and I think Maryland's policies do cover her a little bit. Not sure...

Do any of you know (ballpark) how much they are? I can't put her on a waiting list since she's in a little pain right now and I'm sure it will get worse. She's having a hard time swallowing too.

My grandads cost just over 1K for a full set top and bottom. That was with some insurance coverage.

Just a thought...I know our local college does all sorts of dental work for a reduced price. There are students in there that are learning to be dentists, hygieniest, etc. and this is one way they learn. It is supervised by licensed dentists. I know they do teeth cleaning for about $12 and fill cavities for about $25. They also have a sliding fee. Might be something to check into.

I took my GS troop there for a tour and was amazed at all the services they offered. Another thought, call your local health department or senior care program. They are often in the know on local programs. Good luck.
