Allergy reports...how long should bloodwork take?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2006: Allergy reports...how long should bloodwork take?
By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 - 09:31 pm:

Connor had 5 vials of blood taken almost 4 weeks ago at the Johns Hopkins center. We are trying to see what he's allergic to since he keeps breaking out in hives after Barley (our dog) licks him and to see if he's allergic to nuts and still allergic to eggs.

I called the doc 2 weeks ago and she called me back and left a message that basically told me to be patient and that his iron count was fine but the allergy panel was still pending.

How long should it take?

I think I would call the doctor back again, and see if it's done yet. I really have no idea, how long that should take! They should have given you a clue, I think, if it was going to take this long.

I would be calling back too. I can't believe it takes a MONTH to get results back! That is nuts!!

If it were me, I'd be calling every day by now - especially given that from the time they tell you the report is back until the time you actually get an appointment could be another 2 - 4 weeks. Four weeks to get back lab reports is absurd. This is not like a bacteria thing where you need to do cultures that take time to grow - at least, I don't think so.
