I saw a fertility specialist last week
Well, last Thursday, I went and saw a fertility specialist. Everything went well. I have to get some tests done that i'm not too thrilled about.
Next Monday, I to go in and get my blood drawn. They are doing a Thrombophilia Panel. It basically checks everything. I have to fast for it, so it should be fun. My sister-in-law said that they usually draw about 10 tubes of blood. I will be leaving Rylee at home with my grandmother. I just hope I will feel ok to drive home. Luckily, it's not too far. I will bring something to eat and drink after the test is done.
I had to call them today to let them know that I finally started my 1st cycle since my miscarriage. Next Wednesday, I have to get a Hysterosalpingogram. Try saying that 5 times fast . This test should be tons of fun. This is an important test that is part of the basic infertility evaluation. A catheter is placed through the cervical opening into the uterine cavity in which radiographic contrast (dye) is injected. The uterine cavity fills with dye and if the fallopian tubes are open the dye will then fill the tubes and spill out into the abdominal cavity. In this way it can be determined whether the fallopian tubes are open or blocked and whether the blockage is loctaed at the beginning of the tube and the uterus or whether it is at the end of the fallopian tube. There are other things that potentially can be seen on a hysterosalpingogram other than whether the tubes are open or blocked. The uterine cavity is evaluated for the presence of polyps or fibroid tumors or scar tissue. The fallopian tubes are also examined for any defects within the tube or suggestion of partial blockage. The results of the test are immediately available.
On day 10 of my cycle, I have to start using an Ovulation Predictor Kit to see when I ovulate. As soon as I get my LH surge, I have to call my doctor. 8 days after my LH surge, or cycle day 20~>22 if I don't have a LH surge, I have to go in and get my progesterone checked. If it's not high enough, I will most likely have to start Prometrium. I have a HUGE feeling this is the problem. We will see.
Now, here is the other FUN part of this whole testing bit. 12 days after I get my LH surge or 5 days after the progesterone is checked, I have to have an Endometrial Biopsy . An endometrial biopsy is a procedure to remove a small sample of the lining of the uterus. The sample is examined under a microscope for abnormal cells. An endometrial biopsy helps to evaluate whether the endometrium is going through its normal stages of change during the menstrual cycle and to determine whether cancerous conditions are present. It will also tell if the lining of my uterus is being properly prepared by hormones (estrogen and progesterone) to support pregnancy.
After all of that has been done, I have to schedule a consultation appointment with my fertility specialist to go over everything and to see where we go from there. I will update you all with everything, and if I find anything out, I will post it here. Wish me tons of luck!!!!
Rayanne, even though you are not looking forward to these tests, this is what will *hopefully* give you the answers you are looking for. The blood tests will be a breeze - it's quite common to have to fast for even normal blood work - I did it last week - just try to schedule your appointment for early in the morning, and it shouldn't be too bad. And great idea about taking food/drink with you for after the blood tests.
The *physical* tests - I am not going to lie and say they will be a breeze, because A) I haven't gone through that and B) they probably *won't* be a breeze. I do know people who have had the endometrial biopsies though, and they did say they experienced some discomfort - but that they were glad they had it done because they got the answers they were looking for.
I'm sorry you've had to deal with all of this, I know it's been emotionally and physically painful for you.
But hopefully, once you've done all these things, you'll find out what you can do to have another healthy, bouncing baby boy or girl.

I can tell you that the one with the dye isn't too bad at all. The actual test isn't at all painful but I did have some cramping after the test. Other than that...nothing much at all. The test itself is less painful or uncomfortable than a routine gyn appointment!!

(((hugs))) Rayanne I had a similar procedure done with the dye, but for me they used a saline wash. It really was odd feeling, but not painful. In general you just aren't used to have non body temp water inside you.
However I did also have an endometrial biopsy done. I would highly suggest taking something before hand, if nothing but lots of advil. This test is quite uncomfortable, but is pretty short. It did just make me feel like poop all day though. So plan to come home and rest afterwards.

Ditto Kaye. The endometrial biopsy will probably be the toughest but, when it's all said and done, it will be worth it. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you especially hard this month. {{{Rayanne}}}
