Baby Grasshoppers/Larve In Window Screens Help!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2006: Baby Grasshoppers/Larve In Window Screens Help!!
By Kate on Friday, July 21, 2006 - 09:10 pm:

Our windows are about three years old. For the past two years we've noticed bits of grass sticking out of the screen track on EVERY window (facing north, south, east, west, first story, second story....) but only on ONE side of the screen. Upon pushing up the screen all this disgusting grass, twine, and BABY GRASSHOPPERS AND WIGGLING LARVAE falls out. It's SO disgusting. WHY are these adult grasshoppers building their nests and laying their eggs in my window tracks??? How do I keep them from doing it? It happens every summer. I assume they begin it in the spring, but summer is when I notice it. I guess they keep bringing more and more nesting fluff. It is all CRAMMED in there all in a vertical line along the vertical track. I pick it all out with a toothpick and try not to scream. Does this happen to anyone else?? Do you know of any way of preventing this home sweet home business??

Oh my goodness! I have never heard of this, but I know my dd would love it! An up close and personal encounter with baby grasshoppers!

She started a "grasshopper club" at school last year with a few girls, where they would try to catch grasshoppers during recess. They had to stop once the teachers found out because they were afraid of them. Sheesh!

Sorry...kind of off topic. Good luck, I know that would drive me crazy, too!

go to a garden store and buy something to spray on the window tracks. It should keep them away, but you'll probably have to reapply when it rains.

Sorry Kate, I just think that's really cool! :) My daughter would love that too.
