Help...Nest Mites!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Help...Nest Mites!!
By Andi on Monday, June 26, 2006 - 11:44 am:

We have two nest on our deck and they are in a Bamboo Shade we have. We love having them there but yesterday while I was relaxing on the deck I felt something crawling on my arm......EEEWWWWW!!

I noticed a little bug then another and another! I was so grossed out. I thought our chairs got infested with something...turns out since I had them close to the Bamboo the mites just fell out and landed on my chair. Needless to say I jumped in the pool then took a long very hot shower. :)

Well I cleaned the chairs and moved them away from the nesting area but I still want the mites gone. The kids are always on the deck playing and we have Taylor's 2 nd birthday next weekend.

HELP!!! What can I do?

Are birds still using the nests? If not, I'd ditch them ASAP. Ewwww!

Andi,
Go to a bird/avian store. They have a spray you can use that will kill the mites and is safe for the birds.

Yes the birds are still in it otherwise it would be long gone!!! When they leave I am throwing out the Bamboo shade.

I will look in the phone book and see what I can find, thank you Shelly.

btdt, but it happened to dh. He had thrown his back out and was in bed when he felt something crawling on him. They had come through the a/c (nest was on the thing that holds the a/c in the sides of the windows. He flipped, and the nest w/babies was moved to a shrub just below. If it's a sturdy nest you can move it as long as you move it close by.

I would love to move it but I am worried our cat will try and get the babies. UGH, this whole thing sucks!!!!

Well they finally flew away and Thank goodness it was trash day! I threw out the shade and all the seat cushions that where on the deck. Then I scrubbed the deck like a mad woman. We are Nest Mite free and just in time for her party on Saturday.

:)
