Has anyone seen them live? They've just started playing them on the radio up here - or really just the one Papa Dookie song and I love them. They are supposedly playing a free concert up here in the summer and I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard them live. I think they just played at the Jazz festival.

I've never heard of them............but this was their *bio* on the official Jazz Fest site:

subdudes (ROCK) – The ‘dudes have some of the best musical minds in New Orleans rock ‘n’ roll, creating their own style of rootsy rock with an emphasis on vocal harmony. New CD: Behind The Levee. Sat., April 29, Allison Miner Music Heritage/Lagniappe Stage, 1 p.m.; Acura Stage, 3:40 p.m.

I might have to check this out.

We did not go to Jazz Fest this year, for a number of reasons, and I am kicking myself now.

My dad went to the Jazz festival a few years ago and he said it was awesome. It must be great to live near it - although it's probably chaotic too. I really hope they come up here.

Colette, Jazz Fest is nearly 40 years old. When it began, it was just local people and local bands. It has gradually grown into an international event. More and more bands and more food every year, more and more people - I personally know a number of people from the west coast who come to N.O. every year, religiously, for Jazz Fest.

The problem - it is STILL held at the Fairgrounds, it has gotten to be too big for what it is and where it's held. I have not been in 10 years due to that.

Also, they used to allow you to bring ice chests in, and now you can't, so it can be an expensive outing.

Still, it's quite an experience, especially if you are open minded about music and not locked into any particular musical genre. And when people speak of the love and the spirit of the people at Jazz Fest, they are not exaggerating. It's something you will always remember.
