Rashes -When to be concerned

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: Rashes -When to be concerned
By Tripletmom on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 09:16 am:

I just wanted to pass some information on certain rashes with a virus. When my DD was 2 she had a virus and needed an antibiotic.5 days after being on the antibiotic she got a rash in her groin area. What concerned me was when I touched the rash it didn't go white, she seemed fine and was very playful.I told my DH that something was wrong and we took her to E.R.We're glad we did b/c it ended up being ITP(idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura). Her platelet count ended up being 16,000 and she needed a transfuion. It was the most terrifying time of our lives.I didn't know that this even existed.I just wanted to share this as I knew nothing about it or how dangerous it could be until it happened to us.

That is so scary. I'm glad she came through it ok. Thank you for the information.

I think I had a friend who had this, too. She bruised very easily and sometimes got looks like her dh was beating her. She said it was a genetic disorder.
