We sold our house

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2006: We sold our house
By Debbie on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 02:07 pm:

We put our house on the market last week(Tues) We had 2 offers on Saturday!! The contract was finalized this morning. We got $2,500 over our list price. We had to give up our refrigerator, which wasn't a big deal, because we were going to buy a new one anyway. We had to compromise on the move out date. We wanted to stay until the end of June, but we have to be out by June 15th. We found a house in the St. Louis area this past weekend which we can close on at the end of May. So, it looks like we are officially moving to O'Fallon, Missouri. I am sad that it isn't Texas, but happy we will be with dh again.

Wow. That's fast! Our current house went on the market on a Thursday, we saw it on Monday and by the next Thursday, it was a done deal!

That's GREAT!!! Wow, I can't imagine getting MORE than the asking price here, and right now the market here is so bad that a year on the market is very common. Good for you!!!

Oh Debbie!! That was a quick sell. I know how badly you have wanted to get back to Texas. It sounds to me like it all worked out how it is suppose to for now though! :)

Are you excited about your new house? Is it similar to your house now or completely diff?

Conni, it is pretty different. We ended up with a new home. The subdivision is completely built. There were just two homes on inventory left, so we got a good deal because the builder wanted to close out the subdivision. We looked at sooo many homes and this was one of the last ones. It figures. We found a few houses that we liked, but they were either on a busy street or backed up to one, the neighborhood had older families, etc. This is a small subdivision with lots of young families. We were there on Sat. and there were lots of kids out playing. I do really like the new house. I love the kitchen.. it is huge with stainless steel appliances and a double oven, it has corian counter tops with a big center island. The bedrooms are really big and the boys will have a jack N jill bath to share. It is so nice and clean too since it is new. We will have a much smaller backyard, all the lots there are smaller then here. And, we will not have any nice big trees since it is new, but I really do like it. I was upset the last day because we hadn't found anything. I told dh that I wasn't moving if we couldn't find a house. He sure was relieved when we found one. We also talked to the neighbor and he told us how awesome the elementary school is. We did a lot of research and thought it was a good one, but it was nice to hear from someone that was living there. So, I am pretty happy with everything. The only thing it doesn't have is a subdivision pool. We were really hoping to get in a community with a pool. But, there are several pools in the area that we can get a membership too for the summer.

Oh...and while we were there, they had a heat wave...it was in the high 80's and low 90's. We were so happy to see the sun. Ds said it actually reminded him of Texas, so he thought he could handle it.

Congratulations Debbie. I can't believe how quickly you sold your house. What a relief that must be for you. The market here in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area, which is normally very hot, is s l o w. On average houses are staying on the market anywhere from 3 - 6 months or longer. Well, I'm in the real estate settlement business and although I'm in Virginia and things are probably done slightly different there, please feel free to call on me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your upcoming closings. Congrats again!

Tink, thank you so much for the offer. We are lucky that dh's company really takes care of us. We have a relocation person appointed to us, and the company pays for the closing costs, etc. We have actually been assigned the same relocation person the last 3 moves, and she is great. But, if I have any questions, I will definitely ask.

Ohhh your new house sounds so nice!!! I hope you post pics!!! I am obsessed with looking at houses. Blake and I have been going to open houses (he actually LOVES to go and asks when we get to go to another one. lol ) My sis is selling a house and she drove me up to look at it this afternoon. It was sooo pretty.

Good luck with everything. Thats good the company takes care of you!
