What's Your Perfume?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: What's Your Perfume?
By Heaventree on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 03:58 pm:

Do you wear it?

I haven't worn perfume in at least 2 years because I've been breastfeeding so I try to stay away from anything too smelly even deodorant.

I was at the perfume counter a few weeks ago day and I tried Reaction by Kenneth Cole, thought it was nice. When I got home DH grabbed me and said "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING!" and for the rest of the evening he would not leave me alone. A week later he bought me a bottle. LOL!

I used to wear Coco Chanel, Lauren (Ralph Lauren), Dune and Angel. I haven't shopped for perfume in such a long time there are so many new scents I just love I want to buy more. :)

So what's your perfume?

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:21 pm:

Diorissimo. When my former boss went to Paris, I told him I liked lily of the valley fragrance. He brought back Diorrisimo, and I've been wearing it almost every day since. I've bought two bottles on my own, having hinted loudly at Mothers' Day, birthday and Christmas, with no results.

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:22 pm:

Oh, and Cori, if you wear anything but Reaction from now on, you're crazy.

By Colette on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:31 pm:

DKNY Be Delicious
Escada "rocking rio"
Escada "pacific paradise"
Poison "hypnotica"

and I've got a bunch of samples that I need to try. some I like, some are crap.

By Angellew on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:53 pm:

Light Blue - Dolce & Gabbana
Duende - J. Del Ponzo
In Red - Armande Basi
Calyx - Prescriptives (though I've gotten away from it a bit... I like it better in the summer!)

By Trina~moderator on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:56 pm:

Many perfumes actually make me ill. Just walking through the cosmetic section at the mall will give me a throbbing headache. That said, I have to be very careful when choosing perfumes. It's hard to find something that won't bother me and that I like. Eve introduced me to Origins, and I found a fragrance I love - "Ginger Essence". DH loves it, too! smileywink I also like "Fret Not".

By Crystal915 on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 04:57 pm:

Very Sexy, currently, and I get a lot of compliments with it. I wear the body spray almost every day, the perfume when going out. I also wear Pure Seduction body splash, whenever I need a change.
How about mens' colognes?? You made me think about that, because a friend of ours was wearing the new Reaction for men, and that stuff smells GOOD. Another friend wears Burberry, also smells great.

By Yjja123 on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 05:08 pm:

Chloe Narcisse
Most days I just use Bath & Body works lotions. Hubby's favorite is Gardenia.

By Pamt on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 05:10 pm:

I don't have a perfume anymore. :( I used to love Chanel no. 5 and a few others. However, since I've been working in a hospital for the past 5 years those of us with direct patient contact aren't allowed to wear perfume. I do have some Curve that I inherited, but I don't like it. i don't like strong perfumes--just real natural ones.

By Conni on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 05:10 pm:

Dream Angel- DIVINE for me right now.

Armani- Mania for dh right now. (which smells really good on him.)

I have smelled some fragrances lately that I liked, but cant even think of the names. :) I am ready for a new scent myself. I'll have to test the Kenneth Cole Reaction and see if I like it.

By Happynerdmom on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 05:21 pm:

L'Eau d'Issey by Issey Miyaki...I've worn it for almost ten years! It is *me.* I LOVE it.

By Kernkate on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 05:38 pm:

The only perfume I can wear is Sweet Honesty from Avon, any others I have problems with. I break out or the smell just kills me.

By Hlgmom on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 07:51 pm:

I am in love with Lovely- Sarah Jessica Parker! I had been hinting at Xmas to no avail and then my wonderful sis came through with the perfume and lotion for my birthday! Dh loves it too!

By Tripletmom on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 08:09 pm:

I like White Musk oil from the body shop. Its light and soft.I get headaches very easily with strong odours.

By Amecmom on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 08:16 pm:

Beyond Paradise - Este Lauder
Romance - Ralph Lauren

I used to love New West, but I can't find it anymore.

I also used to have a summer fragrance and then switch in the winter to something heavier.

Ah, those were the days ...

Oh, Ginny, I love Diorissimo!

Also, there's a violet perfume that was availavle in Italy forever that you can't get anymore either. I think it's called Violetta.

Ame

By Heaventree on Monday, April 10, 2006 - 08:38 pm:

Ginny, you're cute! I guess how much attention I want will dictate how just how often I wear it. :) I think I also need a "Get away from me and leave me alone scent as well". :)

Wanna buy some Coco or Lauren?

Crystal, I love Burberry, I noticed the Burberry trademark bottle right away and had to smell it. It was so nice. I also like JLo's two scents, I think she also has a 3rd scent out now.

I smelled Shania - nasty stuff. Well for me anyway.

By Annie2 on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 12:21 am:

Lately I have been wearing Lovely. I need to use a light scent otherwise I get a headache.

DH doesn't wear cologne but I wish he would use Aramis.

By Jtsmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 07:18 am:

I have never been one to wear perfume until I found TOVA, I love it! But when I don't perfume, I just like to use Bath & Body Works Coconut and Lime lotion! It smells so good!!

By Marg on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 07:22 am:

Savannah Gardens by Crabtree & Evelyn. This is nice and light.

Dh is the same way, he is allergic to so much and so is oldest dd. So I have to watch what I wear.

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 07:48 am:

Angela, Light Blue is my DD's favorite!!!

I have several that I wear and LOVE:

VS Heavenly
Paloma Picasso
Kenneth Cole Black
Donna Karan Cashmere Mist (LOVE IT!)
Calvin Klein Obsession
Calvin Klein Euphoria
Burberry Brit
and my old standby, White Diamonds

What I wear depends on what I am wearing, the time of year and sometimes, the time of day. I wear perfume every single day.

By Kaye on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 09:14 am:

I wear beautiful by estee lauder. I have the lighter scent from them too (not sure what it is called, beautiful splash or something, smells total different though). I used to wear several different ones, but this is the only one I wear now.

Hubby doesn't wear cologne, on a rare occasion he will put some on if we are on a date. In that case he is a polo man mostly, but he has several.

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 10:12 am:

I'm glad you asked this Cori. I have a very low tolerance to strong smells. Going into Bath & Body Works is difficult for me but I do it anyway. I never buy anything. Also, just walking down the laundry detergent/cleaners isle at the grocery store is hard for me. I do want to wear perfume, but I don't think anyone makes a hypoallergenic(is that the right word?) perfume. Sometimes I have come across a very light fragrance that is nice but after wearing it a second time, I start having a reaction.(mainly itchy throat and eyes) Suggestions???

By Janet on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 11:54 am:

Sandy... I'm exactly the same way! I can't wear scented lotions, I have to be careful about shampoo and hairspray, can't use drier sheets that are scented, etc. Perfume is pretty much out of the question. I have found that I can wear Victoria's Secret "Halo" in very small amounts, on a good day. But I haven't worn perfume like I used to in years (since the birth of my 2nd child). I must've short-circuited something with that pregnancy!

By Heaventree on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 12:39 pm:

Sandy, I too have a hard time with the detergent isle in the grocery store, I usually avoid it completely.

You might want to check out essential oils. The Body Shop has a nice selection.

I used to wear patchouli, but I think they use it in roach powder, because my Father and a colleague both mentioned smelling it and it was actually my perfume. LOL.

They have other nice scents though

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 12:53 pm:

Cori, I am a *child of the 60/70's*, and we used to wear Patchouli oil all the time! LOL Every time I smell that now, it reminds me of my teenage years.

By Unschoolmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 03:15 pm:

My perfume is generally Palmolive Orange Scent or Eau de Diced Onions. VERY exclusive stuff. :)

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 05:51 pm:

I was just looking on the net and Burberry has a hypoallergenic perfume called Baby Touch.

www.perfume.com

It might be worth a try.

Dawn, LOL!!! I usually smell like baby wipes from changing diapers!

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 05:54 pm:

I will check out The Body Shop too. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 06:04 pm:

Apparently, I am allergic to perfume, now. Last year, I broke out in itchy red bumps on my arm and on my neck. Not big blotches like hives, but little red bumps that looked like pimples. My mom bought me perfume (Lady Stetson) for Christmas, and I wore some to a dinner banquet at my hubby's work, and I broke out AGAIN but not as bad. I have to keep some ointment on hand just in case.

By Heaventree on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 09:25 pm:

Lisa, try spraying it in your hair, it seems to last longer that way anyway. Just make sure it doesn't touch your scalp.

By Janet on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 09:35 pm:

Remember Love's Baby Soft? Yum! I still love that scent (I wore it in jr. high), but it's a bit..erm..young for my "mature" years!

By Tripletmom on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 - 09:38 pm:

Janet-I loved wearing Love's Baby Soft. That's what my DD likes to wear she likes the body spray.

By Tinashe on Monday, June 5, 2006 - 09:43 pm:

whats the best perfume you can recommend?i love rich and sophisticated perfumes which lasts the whole day and can make people ask what am wearing.have been trying dirrefent perfumes but sofar no luck.i am looking for a perfume to make my signature

By Sandysmom on Monday, June 5, 2006 - 10:17 pm:

I have worked with people who wore Jessica McClintok(spelling?) and they would be complimented quite often. One year, I got some for my birthday and I couldn't wear it. (see my posts above)

By Tinashe on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 04:05 am:

thanx sandy will check it out

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 07:52 am:

I hardly ever wear perfume. The problem is, I usually forget. The other problem is, they bother DH. I have seen him be fine one moment and the next moment be sneezing non-stop, because he has reached the breaking point, with someone else's perfume. So, for me, I guess it's just not worth it. I don't want him to be miserable.

I did have some Lauren, once upon a time, that I liked. I don't think that bothered him. I'm not even sure if I still have it anymore. It would be really old, if I did.
