Who has been to these places? Pro's and Con's for Oct. season? Things to do and see? Best places to go? Thanks ladies!!!

By Alberobello on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - 05:07 pm:

I am from Cancun. Why? Are you thinking of going there? I'll come back later and tell you all about it.

By Kaye on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - 05:30 pm:

We went to hawaii in oct of 2003. We just stayed on the main island. The weather was perfect and it was beautiful. I know a lot of people island hop and maui and kauaii are supposed to be beautiful. But I am not too picky, Oahu works for me.

Things to see, pearl harbor, waia mai falls, snorkeling anywhere but hanumu bay, The old magnum pi house :), the aquairum is nice and small, we did a half day boogy board excursion.

Well, a con to going to Cancun in Oct. is that is hurricane season. Several years ago I went to Cancun at the end of Sept and it rained 3 out of the 5 days we were there.

I have never been to Hawaii, but I know several people that have been, and they all say it is beautiful.

We went to Maui last year, but it was in July. Some of our favorite things were snorkeling in Molokini and the Old Lahaina Luau.

We are going to the Big Island in January, so I will be watching this post for suggestions as well. :)

By Alberobello on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - 07:09 pm:

Tonya, Debbie is right,October is the end of the hurricane season so is best to stay away. The best time to go to Mexico i think is around this time of the year (or February -a bit cooler).

Hawaii sounds lovely though...i'd love to go to Hawaii :)

By Annie2 on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - 07:38 pm:

Honeymoon plans? I have never been to either place but do stay away from the Gulf of Mexico during the hurricane season.

By Tonya on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 08:42 am:

Yes honeymoon plans we are still deciding on what we want to do. I was thinking Hawaii too and forgot about huricane season that knocks out Cancun for me for sure.

The date is set 10/13/07 in Vegas we are going to leave on Sunday from Vegas to go on the honymoon we just have to decide where. Thanks ladies.

I guess I am going to have to do some research on Hawaii now.

By Kaye on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 09:28 am:

oh and another fun thing to do is climb up diamond head :)

By Mommyof5 on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 11:54 am:

I have been to hawaii and had a great time. I have also been to Aruba and probably liked it better than Hawaii...very beautiful.

Tonya--I am confused. If you are having a destination wedding (going to Vegas) why are you not honeymooning at your destination? Just curious?

By Tonya on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 01:06 pm:

We are doing the wedding in Vegas because that is what he has always wanted to spend a few days and gamble and such. But there is no way either of us could do it for a week straight. We are compromising and doing both for half the time. We know that we would never do Maui or something like that again at least until the kids were older because vacations for us are with our kids. So we decided both would be fun. I want the calmness, warm waters, beaches, fish and all of that he wants the night life, gambling, fun fun fun go go go. We figure after 12 years of being together (minus the few in the middle) we are worth it.

By Reeciecup on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 01:29 pm:

Tonya- based on your time restrictions I would advise against Hawaii. It is very costly and takes a day of travel each way so you would really be spending so much time in the air (especially if you are headed for Maui which isn't on the main island which is where the majority of flights fly into) that you would lose that relaxation time you are aiming for. What about San Diego? It is gorgeous from what I've heard (I've never been but its on my list) I know numerous people who have been and I have NEVER heard a negative thing about it. I went to Hawaii 2 years ago and while it was beautiful, we agreed we would rather go to the Caribean because of the cost and travel time factor.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 01:46 pm:

I wonder if trying to combine the two that you will actually get the relaxing time you desire? It seems a lot to get into one weeks time. Have you considered having your wedding on a cruise? You could go somewhere relaxing and there is plenty of gambling to please your fiance. Just a thought.

By Tonya on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 02:06 pm:

From Detorit to Vegas 6hrs from Vegas to Maui it takes 6 hours to fly. And from Maui to Detroit it takes 11hrs to get home. So out of a 9 day vacation we would spend around 23hrs on planes. To do the things I want and he wants it is worth it.
If we fly out Sunday morning from Vegas and spend all day Sunday through the time we leave out Friday to come home. We get 4-5 days there. They have flights that fly into Maui. San Diego would be nice yes but again the things I want to do wouldn't get covered. I want the really warm weather and the snorkeling and whatever else we can do. Time wise it would work for us.

And my parents are paying for the entire reception and the wedding so we have to pay for our attire, bridal aprty gifts, and our family airfare plus honeymoon. In 18 months we can save more than enough to cover that. Plus my grandparents (both sets) and uncle and Aunt said they would give us money for our honeymoon so we will have help with that too.

I sent away for a tavel book for Maui that island covers all of the things we want to do. Site seeing, snorkeling, waterfalls, hiking, swimming and relaxing and being romantic.

I found people on my Wedding Board that live in Hawaii and they told me that was the best Island for it and can be done on a budget and a good travel agent which I have too my cousin!

By Tonya on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 02:08 pm:

We will have 9-10 days for it all. Leaving Friday AM to coming home the folowing Sunday whenever we want. We will only be in Vegas from Friday until Sunday then do Maui the rest of the trip.

By Conni on Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 11:26 pm:

We honeymooned in Cancun- actually it was an adult only, all inclusive (meals and drinks, etc) resort. It's called El Dorado it is about a 30-45 min drive south of Cancun. We had a great time and I would love to go back sometime. We took a Ferry to Cozumel and spent one day, had dinner in Playa de Carmen once, snorkeled in Xel=Ha which was SO cool. Had a hammock outside our room and a jacuzzi tub. The con to going to Mexico for your honeymoon can be the culture shock if you have never been before. It is diff. But the resorts are fun. All inclusive was an awesome way to go!

I know nothing about Hawaii, have never had the pleasure of going.
