Is anyone here???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Is anyone here???
By Jtsmom on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 - 07:19 am:

I have come here over the past 7 years to get advice or ideas on different things that I have needed and was never dissapointed! But where is everyone???
My 2nd grader has 2 days to do a NASCAR craft. I need ideas!!! Why he picked NASCAR is beyond me, we are not fans, but oh well. Thanks for your help

What are the requirements for his craft? Is this for school or for a club?

Ds, age 5, has a dinosaur report due soon, along with an oral presentation. Requirements for the oral presentation were not given to us so I'm kinda at a loss, too.

Oh, CYE, I've sent you something.

Sorry missed the NASCAR project. Dino's I've had a little experience with:

If he's 5 he might enjoy putting together one of those 3 D puzzles. There simple but challenging with help for him. The Dinosaur store has them for $4.95, they ship same day but you could probably find one local at a teacher's store or science museum gift shop or even pattern one yourself. My kids always loved them. They also loved excavation anything. Could create a pretend excavation in a shoe box - bury pretend dino bones. There are also a huge number of borrowable or downloadable DVD's (fiction as well as short documentaries for kids) - some short on the dino of his choice, if the teacher will let him show it.

Everything dino (some reasonably priced) including the puzzles and models. This is the link for the precut puzzle, no glue or tools, stands upright:

Great pictures and an Ato Z list:

Fun Dino site for Kids:

If all this is too much every family has a stuffed dino or plastic dino somewhere. He could just use it as his prop and tell 3 or 4 things about it - just include its name.

Jtsmom,

Tried to e-mail you NASCAR stuff but your e-mail didn't work.

Thanks, for the ideas, Linda. He finished the written part of the report last night (it's due Thursday). I'm more concerned with the oral presentation. But the prop idea would be good for that.

He wants to do another report (little overachiever!) and his teacher gave him permission to do so. I'm thinking he can do two written reports but only present one.

I honestly don't remember doing all this work in kinder!

Hi Enchens,
How great that he wants to do more. You and his teacher must be very encouraging. GO DINO MOM!!! Somehow that doesn't sound right but you understand the intent. Anyway I didn't include this kids dino site from the London Natural History Museum - fun and facts:

and some dino puzzle patterns (could be used on cardboard or foam sheets):

How did the presentation go ? My son (11yrs old) still gets physical sick if he has to present/talk to the class/whatever.

Hi, Harlena,

I don't know how the presentation went, they haven't done it yet. The teacher had to be out the days they turned in the reports. Ds did manage to finish both reports and his regular homework. When dh and I asked him questions about his dinosaurs, he was able to explain in his own words without hesitation so I'm sure he'll be fine. I'm actually more concerned with him talking a long time. He takes a while to get warmed up but once he does he can really talk! lol

Thanks for asking.
