Busy Saturday

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Busy Saturday
By Enchens on Friday, April 3, 2009 - 09:31 pm:

We will be very busy tomorrow. Ds has his first track meet and we're so excited. I took him to the location of the meet so he could be familiar with it. I know he's only 5 and that he will probably only have two little events, but it's still exciting. He has five other classmates that are also in track.

Our exchange student also arrives this Saturday. We've been busy trying to make his room inviting.

Dh has an event in the evening so we'll have to see how we will juggle the track meet and the arrival of our student. Like I said, busy, busy Saturday.

Hi Enchens,

How did the track meet go? The first definitely sets the scene for the rest. Sounds like you prepared him well. Also where is your student from? Did you sign up with an agency or the school? I've always wanted to have an exchange student.

Well off to our busy Saturday.

Linda

Hi, Linda,

The track meet went well. Ds enjoyed it! He did not place at any of his events: 50m, long jump, 100m relay. He dropped the baton on the relay, he was the third leg. I found out, though, that my little kindergartener was competing with 1st and 2nd graders! The other teams did not have any kindergarteners on their teams. His own relay team was all 2nd graders and him, in kinder. So, considering the competition, my baby did really well! And of course, the most important part is that he had a smile on ALL DAY. He did his best and we are so proud.

Ok, I'll stop gushing now.

Our student is from Germany. He is the third student we have hosted. We hosted two girls from Germany last summer. I found out about this program at our church. The person who coordinates this section of the program was there asking for host families and we were finally in a position to do it. I think the coordinator only gets students from Germany. I don't know if the program is that way as well or if the program has other coordinators that deal with students from other countries. I really don't know.

I'm wondering if a high school would have exchange students needing host families or if they could direct you to an exchange program that is more short term.

So glad to hear it went well - especially the smile all day.

We're in NYC visiting family and friends. My son loves to see good friends from this life. Also seeing grandparents is awesome. Gives a totally different perspective to all of life.

If you find out more info re exchange program - let me know.
