Easter Traditions and Celebrations

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Easter Traditions and Celebrations

As we do every year, God willing we will be visiting friends and relatives as well as celebrating the Easter experience. A friend of ours does a seder that we might attend. We may do the live stations of the cross that ends up in Central Park after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge on Good Friday (sponsored by St.Paul the Apostle Church in Manhattan). Usually we also go to a child's presentation of the passion. That usually brings me to tears when they nail a child playing Jesus to the Cross.

Easter morning we have done sunrise events but less frequently as I age. We almost always go to midnight mass on Easter Eve and celebrate with those who get baptized and enjoy a blow-out spiritual celebration, music(trumpets) - its actually amazing.

Kids (even the grown ones) love the baskets and the bunnies. When in proximity to a German choclatier I actually buy the super large bunnies, color the eggs and give vast amounts of candies of all kinds. I experience it vicariously again.

I forgot to mention we also do an evening holy thursday mass or service. In the Catholic church they actually cover the cross at the end with black and lower the lights. Very moving and sobering.
