Natasha Richardson's Death- what to learn as a mom

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Natasha Richardson's Death- what to learn as a mom
By Northcountrymom on Friday, March 20, 2009 - 09:15 am:

I was raised conservative about all physical risk behaviors. Anything risky was to be totally avoided. I've been forced by having risk taking children to include activities that have some risk. This terrible tragedy of a mother just doing her job - having fun on the slopes with her family made me re-evaluate one more time the things I choose to do. In keeping with my upbringing I've thoroughly read a number of articles about this accident. The most balanced was by the author of The Survivor's Club which some people claim you should have in your house like the Merck Manual and the Bible. Anyway if you're like me and wondered if there is anything she could have done this is one of those lists that covers all the bases.

The other piece of info that has surfaced over and over again in my reading is WEAR A HELMET WHILE DOING SNOW SPORTS. Wearing a helmet has reduced by almost half non fatal snow sport related injuries. Another surprise was that in some ways snow boarding is safer than skiing. Finally if you or someone you loves falls and hits your/their head go to the hospital right away -NOW- don't wait (especially the nothing hurts macho boys and men)!!

In case anyone reads this who has a personal relationship with Natasha Richardson, very sorry this happened.

You are SO right ......

It's easy to say what you should have done after the fact ..... but whenever a situation like this occurs, it's always good to re-evalute how we would handle something, and if we need to make plans to handle that something differently !

Prayers are with her family .....
