SO many places .... I had a book that had a bunch of places highlighted all throughout FL .... don't remember the name (big help I am, huh ?) but this lady went all over FL and gave detailed info on the different areas, what to do, places to stay including camp grounds.

Are you looking at a particular part of FL to go to or just generally speaking ?

I'm south of Jacksonville and I know the Daytona area very well .... we've actually camped on the west coast of FL and went to an out-of-the-way beach over there that was INCREDIBLE, to this day it's my munchkin's favorite beach exerience (Tiger Tail Beach) .... but I've always wanted to go to the keys and have yet to make it ....

If you tell me where you're looking to go, I'll give you some insight on the area (if I have any ofcourse !)

I went to Miami a couple of times and was trying to convince my family they would enjoy it. I liked Cuban food.

I really don't know florida that much.

When we were in Miami we went to see the parrots and the zoo(1.5 hour drive and hot) and some tree park.

I remember going to Fort Lauderdale for one day off a cruise ship. We went to a parrot place.
It was beautiful.

I think we want wonderful hotel, beach, and family entertainment since my husband hates the beach. So we can't just plan a beach vacation.

What is there to do in Daytona?

I think we want to do things outside since it is very cold right now in New York area.

My husband wants to see Port Canaveral.

So an area not too far from Port Canaveral?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! Marriage is compromise isn't it!

We go to Coccoa Beach (remember I dream of Jeannie???) when we take the kids to Disneyworld. It is very close to Cape Canaveral. We always do the beach but hope to take the kids to disney next spring and want to do the space center as well as disney and the beach.

Daytona Beach is pretty much a Beach place, although there are some things to do there .... about a thousand miniature golf places, Adventure Landing (a small water park, but it also has mini-golf and go-karts)

Cape Canaveral is near Titusville, about an hour south of Daytona Beach. Kennedy Space Center, official name is a lot of fun, pretty touristy and somewhat expensive, but nothing near Disney in that regard.

Orlando is about an hour west of Daytona Beach. A BAZILLION things to do there (including Wonder Works, is the name I think this upside down place, never been there myself though.) Probably my personal favorite thing in Orlando is the Science Center, but it's an inside thing, as is Wonder Works.

There are some very VERY cool beaches, but at this time of year, it's too cold for the beach (in fact it's very rainy this week !)

Depending on where you go, there are a LOT of fun things in FL, a lot of them are outside, but if you're coming from NY, you're not going to think it's too cold in the 50's like those of us down here do.

Have you been to St Augustine ? That's about an hour north of Daytona Beach. They have the Old Fort there to explore, a couple of nice white beaches, a great place for the kids to run around, incredible quaint little shops, a merry-go-round that's lit up at night in the middle of town (for $1/ride) it was donated to the city on those terms I believe.

This is a GREAT Time to visit Blue Springs State Park, that's where the manatee come during the cold weather.

If any of these sound like fun, I can get you some websites, OR if they don't, I'll keep hunting around in my head for ideas for you !

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. FL is loaded with great spots. Do you want a place where's there's lots of party spots. Do you want to avoid that atomosphere? Looking for history? What type of beach? Busy? Private or not so busy. Resturants everywhere? Natural beauty? Big waves, smaller waves? Sunsets or Sunrise a bigger event for you? FL gets both, but you have choose which one you want before picking your beach. What type of vacation are you looking for? Amusement parks a big deal? Rivers? Lake? Gulf or ocean?

Thanks. I have to read this later. I have to take ds to school.

I love Florida when it about less than 90 degress. So beautiful.

95 degress and above I am not acclimated too. Age I guess.

I think we are going to go down during a break from school so I don't want amusement parks because I think it will be too busy.

I would like to be by the ocean so I can sneak to the beach with the kids for a while. Dh is allergic to the beach. I really want to go back to Miami. I don't know if I have the energy to take a vacation anyway. Maybe I will feel better soon. At least I am out of bed and sort of trying to do my usual stuff. I really liked Miami. I have been there twice.

We went to the parrot jungle and the monkey world. The monkey's were walking above your head in cages. It was interesting. I know I am lucky a monkey didn't pee on my head.

We went to the zoo and the tree garden. And ate lots of Cuban food. We went to a Roman Catholic church. That trip was with my mom. We got along nice on that trip. Maybe me and my mom should take the beach trip with the kids. She would get a kick out of that.

Do you think it will be pretty warm in February for a beach vacation in Miami?

I remember Fort Lauderdale was beautiful too... I guess all of Florida is beautiful.

I definitely don' t think I have the energy to to port Canaveral and then a long trip to another area. I think a two hour car trip will be enough for me. DS who is two does not like long car trips.
