Just a whine!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Just a whine!!
By Crystal915 on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 08:54 am:

I'm having the week from you-know-where, and it's only Wednesday!! I came down with a sore throat this weekend, it seems like I've been sick for weeks! Well, yesterday the pain was so bad and my right tonsil was so swollen I had to go in. I woke up with a fever of 102, and swallowing felt like someone was shoving a hot spear down my throat. So, since I don't have insurance, that was a lot of money I really couldn't afford, but I have to be better by tomorrow, because the kids have a holiday concert at school, and they have really been looking forward to it. The doc said I was negative for strep (thank goodness!!) but I have tonsillitis/pharyngitis. I *think* that just means a really bad sore throat, tell me something I didn't know! But I did get a z-pak, and some painkillers, so I'm feeling marginally better, as long as I take the pain meds and motrin on the dot.

The kids have been ROTTEN lately... what happened to being good because you know Santa is coming?! They have started sneaking lighters to their room, and burning things. I am furious, because they have always known not to touch matches or lighters, and not to play with fire. No matter what punishment, or how many lectures, they keep doing it. I finally put all the lighters in my purse, instead of having one on the table outside where I smoke. I'm going to call the fire dept up the street and see if they will talk to them as well.

I'm just so exhausted from being sick, it hurts to talk, the kids won't listen, and I'm frustrated from not being able to find a job. So, I needed to whine... anyone got any cheese?

I'm sorry Crystal. I hope you are feeling better soon.

That's a bit scary with the lighters and stuff.

Crystal - my nephew used to play with lighters. I showed him some pictures of burn victims and said this could be you if you don't stop. It worked. He needs to see what could happen. Telling him doesn't work. Just an idea.

Crystal - be sure you have smoke detectors up in every recommended place AND put one in the kids' bedroom(s), AND make sure that the batteries are up to date.

Thanks everyone. We are going to the Fire Dept today, I already talked to the guys on shift, and they will talk to the kids. If that doesn't work, it's on to pictures of house fires and burn victims. I don't want to scar them for life, but this is too serious to ignore.

My tonsil is still huge, like the size of a golf ball, so I'm still pretty miserable. I hope the anti-biotics start helping soon.

Great ideas on the fire prevention. I remember one of my brothers being sent home on suspension from school because he set his desk on fire. When asked why he did it, he simply answered, "Because I wanted to see if my papers would burn." Um...yeah! He was in 4th or 5th grade at the time.

Good idea to take them to the fire dept.

I hope you feel better!!

Crystal, I hope you feel better soon...is there some sort of short-term adoption center you could put the kids in while you recoup? Just kidding....I sincerely hope the talk with the firemen work. You don't deserve all this drama!
