After Surgery Update

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: After Surgery Update

I've had a rough start but I'm hanging in. I'm having a bunch of dizzy spells and can not stand for very long without feeling like I'm going to pass out. I'm sure its because all I am taking in is water, Isopure (protein), broth and jello. I am going to start on creamy soups, cottage cheese and milk based protein shakes tomorrow. I am hoping this will help. I weighed myself before I got in the shower this morning and I have lost 14 lbs since having surgery.

Jewlz, how long does the bad breath last? its really bad. I'm going to pick up some breath mints tomorrow.

The bad breath lasts what will feel like forever... uummm about 6 weeks ...its the healing of the wound healing inside your stomach. the dizziness is cuz of ur new metabolism and changing of ur body. that will settle down but dont push to much in ur system to fast just the liquids either water popsicles protein jello thats the most important thing. one morning you will wake up and feel like a new you. like all at once. just keep moving doing all u can with out over doing it and keep positive.huggers

Kristie, Big HUGS... What about breath spray? Binaca or something of that nature, or the melt away strips? Something you don't actually consume?

One day at a time, this too shall pass.. You are in my thoughts.

Thank you! I will definately look for sugar free. I knew in the back of my mind that it all needs to be sugar free but I don't know if I would have remembered that when chosing breath mints, lol. I will also try to find some Binaca. Its been years since I have used that. It used to a really popular item in highschool but I don't think I have bought any since, lol.

Thinking of you today and saw this post. I'm praying for some great healing and a GREAT reunion...in Jan, right? Are you doing a late Christmas?

By Jewlz on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 01:33 pm:

i also had a thought... theres ginger tea u can drink that will help settle ur stomach from nausea ...

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 12:06 pm:

Kristie, I've never been through this but know 2 other people IRL who have. They had trouble with nausea and keeping things down the first few weeks, though they never mentioned the bad breath - from what Jewlz said, that makes total sense.

Yes, Ginger tea or ginger lozenges (if you can find them) will help with nausea, if it's bad, maybe asking for a Rx for Zofran will help?

On the bright side - you've done it! You are losing weight, you are taking charge of your health. You just have to get through the *healing* part. Congratulations. I consider this a brave thing to do.

Thank you..sorry its taken me a while to respond. My friends interenet is still down, we are thinking its her computer :(.

Yes, He will be home mid to end of Jan. I can't wait!!!!! We are not going to do a late Christmas. He wants the kids to have Christmas on Christmas. Luckily, Our morning time is his night time, he works the day shift, so we will put on the webcam for him and he will kinda be here :).

I'm doing much better today. I was actually able to bend over to pick up something. Thats a huge accomplishment. I bought some sugar free cinnamon gum and it seems to be helping but I will look for some ginger tea next time we are out.

Tomorrow I'm going to be trying a product called Juice Plus. You get all your fruits and veggies servings in one drink. The literature I read says it helps promote healing. I'm hoping it tastes good. It comes in pill form too but I can't take those yet.
