Maybe a silly recipe question???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Maybe a silly recipe question???

I'm fixing a crock pot mashed potato recipe tonight for the first time, that I will in turn use for our family Christmas luncheon this weekend. (out of Fix It and Forget It) It says to use 5lbs. of potatoes, peeled, cooked, and mashed.

My question is on the mashed. Does that mean hand mashed after boiling them, or mixer mashed do you think? The recipe also then calls for lots of cream cheese and sour cream, along with spices.

I was thinking that hand mashed would be it, since it's supposed to cook in the crock pot for 5 hrs or so. What do you think? TIA:)

Help!!! :)

I would think you would do it whichever way you prefer. My mom always mashes potatoes by hand, and I always use my mixer. I would think either would be fine.

I don't think it makes a difference. It is a matter of what you prefer.

personally id in this case use a mixer. They would be lighter and fluffier. make sure u spray the sides of the crock pot first to help in cleaning it.

I always spray, but thanks for the reminder Jackie. I went with hand mashing, so we'll see how they turn out!! I always use a mixer for mashed potatoes though, so we'll see about these. Thanks!:)

They turned out yummy, but I think I prefer fully mashed. I only made half of what I need. The next batch tomorrow I will mixer mash. I think I might mixer these from today, too, before Saturday...just late. :)
