Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: 40th Birthday gift ideas needed fast!! LOL

dh and I were invited to a birthday party for the wife of one of his clients and he just informed me "we need to bring her a gift but I don't know her well and I didn't ask her husband for ideas". ARGH!!

We know nothing about her likes/dislikes/allergies etc.

HELP!! LOL

Dh and I just went to a 40th surprise party for a good friend and we were told NO GIFTS! So we got a musical card. Lo and behold at least 2/3's of the people brought gifts. ARGH!! Anyway, he ended up getting about 5 bottles of Crown Royal Whiskey (said he didn't know he liked it THAT much! lol), and a couple of baskets that people had put together with things like Depends, prunes, x-lax, geriatric vitamins, etc. It was pretty funny. However, not knowing the woman I think I'd be hesitant to bring something like that. Maybe just a nice bottle of wine or a spa gift basket to be safe. :) Gift cards always work, too (and this guy got a couple of those as well). Good luck.

For my hubby's 40th, everyone brought a bottle of something for the party.

Gift card to a restaurant or store like Target or a department store. I've said it before on gift-giving posts, but I do NOT think wine is a good gift to give if you do not know someone well. DH and I don't drink, so we would just regift it...and I have had family members who are recovering alcoholics, so wine would be a terrible gift for them. Gift cards to general places are a pretty safe bet.

We decided on a poinsettia that was wrapped all pretty! :)

We know they don't drink alot although we'll take a bottle of wine to share there. We did find a nice pampering gift basket (bubble baths and stuff but I was concerned about possible allergies/not liking scents) and it seemed more personal than I thought should be given to someone we don't know well.

I wanted to take appy's and the like but dh was told not to bring anything.

I've written down these ideas because I have other gifts to buy for people I don't know well.

Thanks! :)
