Me and my kiddos are going on a bus trip to NYC on Saturday, I haven't been there in over 20 years.
Anyone know of any must sees while we are there? Any good restaurants??
It will be nice because it will be all decorated for Christmas.
The only downfall I just checked the weather for there and they are calling for showers and 44 degrees..but we will make the best of it!
TIA:)

I hope you have fun. I was within 462 miles of NYC, three years ago, when we drove to Niagara Falls. I have no advice, just that you have to post, when you get back so I can live vicariously through you.

Dawn I will post after Saturday. I only live 142 miles from NYC. :)

Yes, please do post all about it. I really want to go to NYC and at Christmas time would be the best!! Have a great time!!

By Kay on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:58 am:

We were there at the end of October, and had such a great time! We ate at Tavern on the Green, Cafe Un Deux Trois, Carmine's, and O'Neals. For quicker and less expensive meals we ate at Junior's, Ruby Tuesday, and Joe's Shanghai Restaurant (Chinatown).

By Kernkate on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 11:16 am:

Thanks Kay, we will be in China Town around lunch time!

How far is NYC, from where you live? Are you driving?

By Bellajoe on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 04:43 pm:

I wish I could help. When we went in July we had zero good meals.
We just happened to go to the wrong places I guess.

Times Square was pretty cool. The kids might enjoy the giant Toys R Us on Times Square. There is a big ferris wheel inside. Candy Land, big dinosaurs, etc.

I think my favorite part was St. Patricks Cathedral. It was absolutely breathtaking. I actually teared up when we walked in. I had never seen a building so beautiful.

We are about 2 1/2 hours from NY. We are going on a bus trip with my DD's Baton group.
The Toys R Us sounds neat. We will have to check that out!

I soooo envy you :) My dream was to move to NY after high school and live in a loft ! But, I got married at 16 instead :( ....anyway, I too will enjoy seeing your pictures. You can also settle a rumor for me...I was told that there are NO public bathrooms in NY.But,I'm sure there should be some in restaurants.Anyway, have fun!!

I was sitting here trying to remember if and where we went to the bathroom while walking around NYC. When we walked in to FAO Swartz (which is near Central Park and CBS- i think) we used the bathroom there. FAO Swartz was another really neat toy store. Gigantic stuffed dinosaurs, giraffes, etc. A whole Harry Potter section. All kinds of stuff. It is the one where they have the piano on the floor like in the movie BIG.

I imagine we must have gone more than once, but I don't remember where. LOL

Oh, of course seeing the Statue of Liberty was neat. We didn't go to the island but took the Staten Island Ferry past it. It was free and we got a good look at her. Seeing her at night was beautiful as well.

By Kernkate on Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 10:58 pm:

Well we are back from The Big Apple! We had a Great Time! We saw alot of sights and nutty people! Canal Street was just crazy. Thats were they sell you knockoffs of name brands and all kinds if stuff. The people there are just nuts and annoying!
We saw the Twin Towers sight, We did get into the Toys R Us that is just amazing! The Disney Store was beautiful, we couldn't get into FAO Swartz, the line was way to long about a 2 hour wait. Time Square is just beautiful at night fall. We didn't get to see the Statue of Liberty. It was too cold to walk that far.
Its Ok to visit but I would NEVER want to live there, way to fast pace for me.
I will post pics tomorrow I am headed to the couch to watch some TV and relax,it was a long day!

By Kernkate on Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 11:50 pm:

Oh and Wanda bathrooms are very hard to come by in NYC unless you eat in restaurant. :)

By Bellajoe on Sunday, November 30, 2008 - 03:51 pm:

I'm glad to hear you had a good time! Isn't the ferris wheel at Toys R Us fun? I thought it was cute that they had the little tikes car, the Mystery Machine, etc. for the cars.

Canal street IS insane, isn't it? It's supposed to be China Town but I don't remember seeing many Chinese/Asian people there. We did get a $10 Coach purse and a $10 Kate Spade purse Just so we can say we did it :) LOL The way they sold them, you'd think they were selling you drugs.

We were in the Disney store too. That's where dh and I got the kids souvenirs.

I agree, it is OK to visit but I would never, ever move there. It's way to busy and crazy for me. I remember when we got there, after a 3 hour delayed flight, super small airplane, and a insane taxi driver, I just needed to find the hotel bar and have a nice martini to relax my nerves a bit. It did work :)

Did you get any good meals?

Good pictures Kathy... Your DK's have gotten so big. I would love to go visit but I will continue to live right where I am.

By Dramamamma on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 10:22 am:

Great picture Kathy, looks like a trip to remember. You have some great looking kids!

It's been my dream since I was a teenager to go to NYC and see a broadway show. Someday I'll get there.

By Kernkate on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 09:54 pm:

It was a fun trip...I want to go back again in the spring.
Bobbie, my kiddos are growing way to fast the oldest is 22 :(
Dramma, thanks I think the kids look like me ;)
I think next year at Christmas I would like to see a show, I would never drive there a bus trip is the way to go from here. Its only 2 1/2 hours.
If anyone does go to NY you have to experience Canal St. just once....
