ARRRGGGHHH! COMPUTER PROBLEMS

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: ARRRGGGHHH! COMPUTER PROBLEMS
By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 07:13 pm:

I have absolutely no idea what happened, but I don't have outgoing e-mail. I tried to use Microsoft Help, but lo and behold, my Outlook 2003 disk was cracked. So I bought Microsoft Outlook 2007 and installed it. And I still don't have outgoing e-mail. I tried the repair function of my new program disk. No luck. I checked my settings, and learned that 2007 was using a no longer valid server phone number, so I fixed that, and Microsoft was able to SEND me an e-mail, which I received, but I still cannot send.

So, if I owe you an e-mail, you'll have to wait. My computer savvy son is coming up tomorrow and may be able to fix it. But if he can't I'll have to take it in to get it fixed. And I'm off work all week, so I don't even have access to my work e-mail to send emails.

At least I can get on-line, for MV and other stuff. But I am so very annoyed.

ARRRRGGGGHHHH! I hate Microsoft. I swear, my next computer will be a MAC.

Have you ever tried Mozilla Thunderbird email? And the Firefox browser? I have used both for at least a couple of years, and I have far fewer problems than I ever had with Microsoft programs.

Do you have a hotmail or yahoo account you could use until you get your Outlook back?

I don't want to try anything else until someone smarter than me looks at my computer. I think there may be an error in the Windows program itself. Outlook is receiving just fine. It is just not connecting with my server for outgoing mail. And it doesn't matter whether I am using a different email program or not. I tried using the one I use for Momsview email and it isn't working either. Nuts!

I truly do hate Microsoft. They make everything so complicated.

Usually this type of problem (in my experience) is a setting in your outlook for your outgoing mail server which is something you may need to contact your isp about.

Your incoming and outgoing server settings are under tools, options, mail setup, email accounts. Then you would click view or change existing email accounts, then click the change button. Check what it says for your incoming and outgoing mail server. Occassionally they are the same but they can also be different.

Do you have something from your isp on what your mail server settings should be? If not then I would call them.

This may or may not be the problem but I hope it helps! :)

Could just be a server problem. Ditto Marcia on Mozilla and Firefox. Hope it's fixed soon.

Ditto Catherin, your incoming and outgoing server settings are crucial, if there is an error in that, Outlook will not send or receive mail.

There is usually a pop3 or an smtp setting.
