Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Update....
just a quick update. I went to see the nutritionist again today. I have everthing on my checklist completed and I'm just waiting on the Surgeons Office to call me with my surgery date. My mother in law is being a huge PITA and I'm positive is the cause of my latest flare up. So I've decided to cut her off altogether until after dh comes home in Jan. Its just not worth it. Anywho, I'm hoping for a surgery date before Christmas so I will have some time to heal before dh comes home. I'll let you know as soon as I get the date.
Only 2 months to go until dh comes home....I so can't wait!
Refresh my memory, I remember you were planning a surgery, however I can't remember on what... LOL
I'm having bariatric surgery.
WOW! Big news, Kristie! I think you made the right choice RE: your MIL. You have to do what's best for YOU! Let us know about your surgery date. Good luck!!!!!!!!
Okay, I remember.. That is great news. Yes, please keep us posted on the date. I hope that everything goes well leading up to the date and that you recover quickly...
good luck to you ... I had it three years ago and am living life again...any questions about it ask away!!!
I forgot you had it done jewlz, but remember you posting about it when you had it. How has it gone for you? Have you lost all the weight? Do you want to show off any before and after pics? Would love to hear your story!!
Good luck, Kristi.
I went and saw the nutritionist and she said I'm done with everthing and now I am just waiting on the surgery clinic to call me with my appointment. This is going to be the hardest part. Keeping the weight off I had to loose during Thanksgiving.
Jewlz,I do have questions and I too would love to hear your story. which one did you have done? How long before you were back to normal? I'm hoping to have surgery in December and go back to school in March. Is that reasonable? Did you have to have any additional surgeries? I'm going to GNC & the vitamin shoppe tomorrow to see if I can find some Acia pills. Among other wonderful benifits I've been told they are supposed to help your skin shrink back and I've ordered firming cream. Do you have any tips/advice for me? What kind of protien drinks did/do you use?
I took 4 kids by myself to Knotts Berry Farm. Yes I am crazy. I kept thinking to my self that I can't wait to be healthy again so I can go on the rides with the kids. I did go on a couple like the log ride and the train one that goes though the mountain. I didn't dare go on the others because of my blood pressure.
I've got my neice and nephew with me until Thanksgiving Day and then I get to go spend the day with my crazy disfunctional family ! So we are planning on roasting pumpking seeds, baking cookies and fudge to send to dh. We might even dig out the chrismas decorations if time permits. I'm hoping my parents keep the kids for the weekend so I can do the rest of my christmas shopping. I want to finish as soon as possible so I don't have to worry about it.
oh and so far so good, no more MIL drama !
Kristi huggs to ya girl ... yes the hard part will be to keep the weight off during Tday. but my dr was so strict if you put on any weight he canceled the surgery and made you wait 6 months. so just keep that in mind and I did see him do this to a lady the day before her surgery. He felt if u were not committed to it then he wasnt wasting his time. I had the RNY done with five lil cuts. I hope You will have help for atleast three weeks after the surgery. cuz the first week u are groggy and life just passes you by ...the second week you are alive but taking your protein powder drink every fifteen minutes and this is important to keep you from dehydration. The third week ... is the tuff week for me ... most everyone I know that has had it also ... we started having some self doubt and thinking did I do the right thing. OF COURSE YOU DID ... just takes along time to get the body to heal ... and You feel some depression but by this time you will have lost some weight and start feeling good also ...its a see saw kind of thing emotionally. the surgery itself was a peice of cake ...went in on friday morning surgery at 9 out by ten ... and walking by one ... walk and walk more get ur body moving as soon as u can ... thats important ...have a walking coach that even if u say i cant i dont want to ... have them listen to u to make sure you are not in alot of pain ...but to get u to walk as much as possible as soon as possible ...then i was out of hospitol on sunday morning and stictches out on monday .... that part is easy ... i went in weighing 426 and I got down to 200 ... im around 225 now ... its not easy ... i suggest u get costco brand of protein powder and sugar free torani ... flavorings to mix up with it ... i used also yogurt and fresh or frozen fruits ... as for vitamins i take costco chewables two of them ... before surgury i took biotin for hair to keep it from fallin out a minnimum ..cuz u will loose good part of ur hair.... it will thin out and come back ...i icouldnt walk to the dr door way before the surgery ... in four months i did vegas and grand canyon in the same week and not even lost my breath ... people couldnt keep up withn me ... i have a dysfunctioinal family and i understand stress ... get all u need done before u have surgery cuz then u can enjoy the holidays with ur family after the surgery ..the hard part was cooking for htem and not eating ...the psychological effect of the smell of the food was still there and was hard to deal with ... my kids were 18 and 22 and so they were able to deal with cooking and doing what needed to be done.... i still throw up sometimes with food i dont chew well i cant eat red meat or have more than a lil cream in my coffee as far as dairy no grease that sits on my stomach half a mixed drink makes me loopy fast ... no sodas or drinking thru a straw at all ... u can email me any time a bout anything or just to talk ... i have no regrets about the surgery ...im living a life that is wonderful before i was just surviving. as for my skin some has shrunk some is hanging ... my insurance wont pay for surgiries and i cant aafford more to get rid of excess skin ... walk ...walk walk walk move urself no matter how fast u can even if its in ur chair stretch ing ... do all u can and a lil bit more than yesterday .... i went from a 4 X to a size 16 ... i was twelve pills a day ... diabetes, bloodpressure, cholesterol, head aches back aches stomach problems kidney ...i take only my vitamins now ... thats a life time commitment... what made me realize that i was so over weight was i almost couldnt watch my daughter graduate ... that scared me cuz i wasnt sure i could walk to the football field. i wanted to live and enjoy my kids and life
this is a mini book sorry for that ...

remember to take care of u ...if u are not taken care of ...u cant take care of no one .... be good to urself ....
Thank you for sharing with me. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Its been crazy here with 2 extra kids. I don't have a costco card but a friend of mine does and she said she would take me. I'm going to write down your email address and I'm sure I'll be emailing you with lots of questions along the way. Thank you so much for your help. Congratulations on your success this far.
I'm already being told I'm taking the easy way out. I'm to the point where I don't care what anyone else thinks. I'm doing it for myself, dh and the kids. The doctor suggested it, I had thought about it but thats as far as I had gotten. I've tried many other ways to loose this weight and have failed at all of them. I am planning on going back to weight watchers once I am back on solids to help keep me on track.
I talked to the nurse again yesterday and she said she was going to review my chart and she would call me this week with my pre op appointment. I'll let you know when I hear from her again. I also did some searching online and found a video on you tube that shows the actual surgery. It was pretty cool and it was made to look like a quick and easy procedure so I feel a little better now having seen how its done.
I weighed my self today and I'm 2 lbs heavier than I'm supposed to be to have my surgery. I retraced everything I've been doing and I think I figured out what I did wrong. I've been drinking a lot of G2's and while it only has 25 cal per serving it has a lot of sodium so I'm switching back over to my vitamin water which has no sodium and I also picked up some protein waters. I have a hard time drinking plain water.
Now here comes the hard part. I have to make cupcakes, deviled eggs, a cheese ball and salami rolls to take for Thanksgiving. Not to mention the sweets we are making to send to dh. Luckily the protein water makes me not hungry so I should do fine.
I just now saw this but I want to wish you luck Kristie! If you need help with the kids or anything let me know. I know we keep running into each other in passing but never have time to stop. LOL I see you out walking occasionally so I see your motivation too. Keep it up! Your doing great!
hey there !!! Propel water and dasani water ... dasani has minerals and such added to it and propel is flavored ... its hard this time of the year to keep the weight off ... tho if u can make it thru this u can do anything ... and its so worth it ... get the kids to help u! they can police u with survision and be ur taster. Have them be nice and subtle about it. Get them involved in all u can ... this is a family thing and will be the rest of ur life. The surgery is nothing tuff to get thru ... just get moving as i said earlier. I suggest u start weight watchers or getting some of th ier cookbooks and tips now so u can learn to cook for the family cuz u can help them to start eating healthier and switch with out them knowin. another tip is to eat off of party cake plates instead of huge dinner plates ... and then leave 1/4 of the food ... u dont have to eat everything ... its ok to leave food on ur plate ... and then if u are still hungary an hour later eat that lil bit ..but drink ur water before u eat and after ...soon ull have a regiment of liquids and a time schedule my dr started it with me before my surgery so it wasnt so hard after ... no liquids during meals ... or very lil like 6 oz... and on tday ... take a plate ...go around and put on it what u really think u will enjoy and want to have ... remember portions ...and then eat one part of it ..and then later eat one part of it ... snack on it ... but dont devour it ... taste the food ... slowly chew the food many times ...ull have to learn to chew ur food till its babyfood in ur tummy or u will be sick ... sometimes i forget stilland i recycle it ..sorry trying to be nice here ... we have our own terminology for it ... and as u loose weight thrift stores and sweats will be ur best friends. lol
as i think of more things ill post
Good luck to you!
