Christmas presents for your family?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Christmas presents for your family?
By Missbookworm on Sunday, November 16, 2008 - 01:51 pm:

This is both a generic question and a specific question.

I find it VERY easy to shop for my daughter but it's tough for the boys/man in my life!

I know that I want to get my dh a new non stick fry pan (the one he has no longer has a handle so if I replace it the other one will go into our camping gear), and I'm thinking about getting a box from our cable company that is similar to a Tivo (records, fast forwards through commercials etc.) it's currently on sale :) I'll probably get him a gift card from his favorite fishing store and I'm sure I'll find some other fun stuff...

I have no idea what to get the boys! They're 10, 12, 17 and 21! lol they're video game junkies but have so much of that stuff I want to try a few different ideas on for size.

I want to get my 9 year old dd a simple yet good digital camera (she loved playing with mine when I still had it)and would love to hear what other parents have gotten for cameras for their little ones.

I'd also love good read recommendations for all those ages. We have all the harry potters, the narnia series, one of them has a ton of captain underpants, I have the twilight series (and I'm going to get my oldest into them) I'm not sure the other one (12) will be into them but maybe.

Suggestions for all these age groups and dh's and/or what you're buying for the boys/men in your lives?

Thanks ladies!

I'm making a quilt for DH. It's an Irish chain GB Packers lap quilt that will be just the right size for snuggling on the sofa. We are doing http://www.adventconspiracy.com this year ("worship fully, spend less, give more, love all"), so we are going to more thoughtful handmade gifts this year. We will buy some things for the kids, but not nearly as much as usual.

For 14 y/o DS a new skateboard, clothes, books. For 11 y/o DS he only wants cup-stacking stuff, plus he'll get clothes and books. We may buy a joint video game for both of them.

I have three guys...8, 15 in two weeks, and 16.5... they aren't getting much at all this year. As I am in mid rotten depressing sucky divorce. FUN TIMES! not.

They are each getting one of the things that they asked for (one asked for a new computer-he'll get the cheapest one Wal-Mart has lol ;), one asked for a new Xbox 360 not sure about that gift, ugh!!, the other has a car now and is getting a gift card that he can put towards a stereo or something for his old car ??, clothes, stocking stuffers: some movie passes, cologne, DVD's...stuff like that.

I took them yesterday to have their pictures taken for Christmas cards. Had some taken to frame and give their Dad for Christmas, as well.

Going to be fairly simple year here.

Hey, Connie. My MIL bought my DS an XBOX 360 Pro for $250 plus free shipping. It's a new one and not refurbished. We found it through bfads.net. There was a code you could use for Dell. I just did a search for xbox 360 and found it. I don't know if the code is still good or not. Worth a try. They had the Xbox 360 Arcade for $199 before the code so it would be even less than that.

If anyone is looking for a Wii system, Amazon has them right now for $249 with free shipping and no tax. I found that at the same bfads.net site.

My dh got a snowblower this weekend. Because of the cost, that is his Christmas gift....and mine (that's what he says at least) I told him that it doesn't tell time and fit on my wrist so it's not my gift .

I lost my watch this summer and have waited that long to get a new one for Christmas! If I don't, i'm going out and getting it myself. :)

Dd wants a Hamster...we will see about that

Ds wants a Wii Fit and since I found one at a store, I bought it. I have a feeling they will be the big thing for many this year.
Since he is getting that, he won't be getting much else. I did get them some stuff at the Target $1 spot. Notepads, and stuff like that for stockings.

I couldn't live without a watch, for 6 months. I need a watch for both of my jobs! LOL!

I'd just like a Wii. It just looks like more fun, than all the other video game consoles.

Patti,

Would you please explain the wii fit to me? we have a wii and after you mentioned wii fit I decided to look it up online. Does it come with a game? Do you use it with games that are interactive or what?

Thanks!

The wii fit, has an assortment of games (think wii sports). There are 4 main catagories of stuff to do. Strength training, which are exercises taht you use the balance board and do, yoga, same thing, different exercises, then balance, which has great games like skiing, soccer heading, tight rope, ski jump, etc. Then aerobics, which has hula hooping, jogging and stepping. It is a lot of fun and good activity. It is NOT an amazing workout. If you are buying it with the intention of using it for serious aerobic workout, you would be better off with a video to follow. But the games are fun and it is active, you do get exercise, but nothing that really sustains your heartrate, unless you do the jogging thing and really...get a treadmill then :)

Our christmas gifts. Hmmm well we got a new fence, some new roofing and our having our house painted. So I guess do to ike, hubby and I aren't really doing gifts.

For the kids, they are only getting one thing each, the 10 year old will get a lego set, the 12 y ear old has a video game on his list, and the 14 year wants a new ipod, she is giving her older one to her little brother.

I will fill stockings with some small stuff, but not sure what yet.

I saw in the sale paper on Sunday, can't remember which store , but they have out a new exercise ( I guess you can call it a game) for the Wii Fit. I'm going to look for it when i go in the store.

I'm getting tons of great scrapbook and stamp stuff for Christmas, so I'm so excited! I'm also getting some things for the new house. DH recently got a new TV, so he's not getting much I don't think. Natalie is getting lots of toys...not one thing that's expensive, just lots of smaller cost things. We do tons at Christmas. It's so much fun!

I haven't owned a watch for at least 10 years. :) They're so pretty, I just don't need one, LOL. I'm a weirdo that way.

I'm not a watch wearer either, but I've been looking at the bumbles watches. They are really cute.

No idea what to buy the men/boys in my life. Just over a month to figure it out though!

Sounds like everyone is in the same boat I am!

With the house being broken into and filing for my divorce (on the second stage now as I had to wait for the revised child support order to come through) I'm going to try to keep Christmas down this year. I guess one sort of bigger thing and a few little things. It's just so hard to figure it out!

The Wii Fit comes with what they call a Balance Board. It's a board that you stand on and it can tel how you are standing.

IT comes with one game that has Yoga, exercises, and balance games. My son wants it because of the soccer and snow boarding games.

Here is a link to a Demo

oh, i did not see that Kaye had already answered the Wii Fit question. :)

By Rayelle on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 10:56 am:

Really, I don't see the kids asking for as much or any one expensive thing. My 9 year old ds got into Pokemon this year, he also has mentioned Bakugon. (sp?) My dd's both love Littlest Pet Shop, they share a room and that is their theme. My 8 year old loves Hannah Montana and has asked for the Christmas doll. She also is very artistic. My dd who will turn 5 right before Christmas also wants the Disco Dancing Wubzy doll.
