I just need to whine here

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: I just need to whine here
By Kaye on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 09:39 am:

Okay this is a hurricance whine/cry. So we received minor damage, fencing, missing a handful of shingles, etc. Total of just over 8 thousand. We are some of the lucky ones. My insurance company has been kind of slow, which is out of character. Anyway, after yet another phone call yesterday I got confirmation of what needs done and the amount. On that is very minor roof repair, we are missing just a few shingles, no biggie. So yesterday evening it starts to rain. Turns out the roof isn't water tight. UGH...I am in tears, I thought we were moving forward. Now I have inside ceiling colapsing, water everywhere in my sons room. I am just going to say I sit in tears. I actually called a roofer yesterday, they said in two weeks they could call back and schedule. So now I sit on hold and ask for emergency tarping. Which may or may not be covered by my insurance. They did free blue tarps but we had no idea we needed it.

Anyway, my hubby is in an important meeting and I have already cried to the insurance lady and several roofers. The phone call I am hold on sounds promising, just expensive. So it seemed natural to continue my melt down here :)

Thanks for reading.

I am sorry that you are going through this!
We had roof damage from a hurricane and prior to the claim we had additional water damage. Our insurance company covered all of it. I hope the same happens for you!

Okay a happy update. I called people and called people. I had someone scheduled for late today, maybe tomorrow. But it is stopped raining for a bit, but there is more rain to come tonight and tomorrow.

Well hubby whined at work. Turns out one of the guys there owns a roofing business. They aren't doing repairs, just replacements, but since the weather is rainy today, they can't really do a whole roof. So they showed up and fixed my roof, good as new..WOO HOO! The best part is the tarp was going to cost 500-750 and then the roof repair, which our insurance was 550. These guys did the whole thing for 475. Now I have to pay cash, but I don't care :) Anyway, when my daughter gets home from school I will go and empty all the pans and then wait for the insurance to come out and assess the damage.

That's great news.

That's awesome! Leaky roofs are no fun, and even though you had to pay for it, at least you're dry. :)

By Emily7 on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 04:25 pm:

That is great news, hopefully you can get the repairs on the inside done quickly.

By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 05:08 pm:

Oh Kaye...I'm so sorry to hear but glad it's going to be alright! Sometimes it helps to "whine" and just get help. You never know who can help! Yeah! Let us know how the insurance goes!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 05:13 pm:

I'm glad it got fixed.

And it is back to raining here and the room is still dry... WOO HOO! I love it when things actually work!

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - 10:10 pm:

I'm happy to hear things are working out for you. I hope your insurance reimburses you in a timely manner.
