Washer and dryer

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2008: Washer and dryer

I know there have been several posts in the past about washers and dryers, but I'm planning on buying a front loading washer and dryer set soon and would like to know what everyone likes.
What kind of features to you like on yours? I'm really not able to spend a lot of money on one because I will be making several other large purchases along with these.

I have a huge, front loading washer and dryer, and I love them! It's amazing how much I can stuff into them! My soap lasts forever, because the machines are high efficiency. I can put a huge load of jeans in the dryer, and they're dry in less than an hour.
I had my husband build a stand for them, because I found I had to sit down to load them before. They do sell stands with drawers, but I didn't want to put out any more money.

Bought the Kenmore Elite HE machines with the steam functions in Jan, but they were expensive. Worth it though, can do twice the amount of laundry in half the time. Didn't get the stands because they were over $200 each for the washer and the dryer.

You may have difficulty finding front loaders for a bargain. We paid over $2000 for the washer & dryer. Love them but they are expensive.
I have the pedestals. They were free with purchase when we bought the washer & dryer.

No one sees my laundry room. When my washer went out, I bought a front loader. It's also a Kenmore. No steam feature. Cost, about $1200. I can't remember. Love it.
When my dryer went out I bought a regular, large capacity dryer. Around $500, from Lowes. I didn't care if they didn't match. Also because my room is small, I like a dryer that has a pull down door, so I can easily throw the clothes from the washer into the dryer, without hitting the floor.

We did the same thing as Annie. We bought a large capacity front loader, no steam feature. I love it! The clothes are so dry from the washing machine the dryer doesn't need to work as hard. I can fit so many clothes into one load, it's wonderful. We have a regular large capacity dryer that doesn't match the front loader and it works great. No one goes in our laundry room so the fact they don't match doesn't really matter. We don't have the stands because they were very expensive when we bought ours. The washing machine is the same height as a standard dryer so it's not too different since I normally bent down to load clothes into the dryer.
