Emily got an academic letter

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2008: Emily got an academic letter
By Dawnk777 on Monday, June 23, 2008 - 11:17 pm:

My kids don't excel in sports, but neither did Gary or me! LOL! They excel in academics and band. Emily is only 25 points away from a letter in band. She will easily get that, early next year. However, she did receive an academic letter.

They had to be on the high honor roll or First Honors, for 4 semesters, so freshman and sophomore year by maintaining a weighted semester grade-point-average of 4.6 or higher!

We are very proud of her. I asked her today, if she wants a letter jacket.

"I don't know!" was her reply. LOL!

Sarah was all excited about getting a letter jacket!

Awwwww, wow...I'm so impressed!! Tell her that grades far outweigh anything else and that, if she is true to herself, that she can achieve anything. :) I'm truly and honestly envious!! (And, yes, I'm a Calculus/Biology/Chemistry tutor for high school kids.) WTG, EMILY!!!!! She is a chick who ROCKS!! :)

By Kaye on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 04:32 am:

Very cool. My hubby and I were just discussing how different schools had different policies on jackets.

So does your school buy her the jacket?

By Texannie on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 08:26 am:

i love that letter jackets are now for theater, band and not just sports.

By Rayanne on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 08:43 am:

How awesome!!! I had a letter jacket, and couldn't wait to get it!

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 03:39 pm:

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Annie2 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 03:55 pm:

Way to go, Emily!!!! ;)

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 05:17 pm:

No, the school doesn't buy the jacket. We get the pleasure of paying for all of that! LOL!

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 05:58 pm:

Yay!! Congratulations Emily!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 07:00 pm:

Emily is definitely true to herself. She won't do something if it doesn't interest her, even if it is a big thing, with other people.

My DS is the same as Emily, he received his letter in academics last year and his varsity letter for basketball and baseball this past school year and I was so excited I was ready to go out and buy that jacket immediately but he didn't want one :( he can't see spending that much money for such a short time that he would wear it, he'll be a senior in September.

Congrats to Emily :)

Good job Emily. Callie just put hers in the front of one of her senior photo albums. She has two of them that I filled through out the year. She wasn't into the letter man jackets either.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 09:51 pm:

Two albums.

Way to go Emily! When I was in school you got one for being in something for 3 years and I got one for choir. I'm not sure they did it for academics even though they should.

Congrats Emily, you should be so proud Dawn!

By Kaye on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 10:33 pm:

I got my jacket as a freshman, and our school paid for ours, so I got 3 full years of wear out of it. Kind of funny, my dd wore it for the last year, we just don't need jackets often here in houston, so she found it in my closet and it was her size..LOL

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - 11:12 pm:

Thanks, everyone! Kaye, you were lucky that your school paid for yours! I think that would be pretty expensive for a school district. We have about 10,000 kids in our district and about 3,000 high school students, although they don't all earn letters. (For 2007-08, it's 3093.)

By Bea on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - 12:31 am:

Good for you, Emily
