I'm glad you made an appointment. I read your other post, and it definitely warrants a doctor visit!!

I will be thinking of you, and hoping for the best.

Well, there's some good news, but still many questions to be answered. My Doctor is unsure at this point as to what might be causing these problems.

I had an EKG, blood tests, chest x-rays, and a urinalysis test. The Doctor said the EKG revealed my heart to be in great shape and didn't reveal any problems. However, he wants to wait and see the results of my blood work and x-rays (results won't be available until Tuesday or after).

I was a bit concerned when he said that my urinalysis revealed "trace abnormalities". He said it was not necessarily something to be upset about, but is something to keep in mind when the rest of the results come back. As far as I can tell, I don't have any bladder issues, etc. so I'm not sure why I would have any abnormalties, however small. I'm really curious as to what that's all about.

He would also like me to wear an "events monitor", which is a device that I would wear 24 hours a day (except for baths/showers) for a month. This device would monitor my heart, and whenever I have an episode, I guess I push a button, and the device will be able to recall my heart rhythms for the 2 minutes prior to the episode, what it was doing during the episode, and how my heart reacted once the episode passed. I will have to clear something like this with my insurance, and then I have to go to the hospital where they will show me how to use it and help me hook it up. Not sure how intrusive this device will be, but I can just picture myself with all kinds of wires hanging all over me for the next month (LOL).

Anyways, that's where I stand at the moment. I'm definitely anxious to see what the test results will possibly reveal.

Thanks to all of you for caring. :)

It's not intrusive. I had to wear one. They have two kinds - one is a Holter monitor and one is something else, but they are both the same type of thing. I had to wear both kind when I was having palpitations. I am sure your insurance will not have any issue with this and I am kind of surprised that rather than your dr would have to clear this. good luck and don't worry!

The events monitor is "the something else", colette! LOL! The holter monitor is the larger one that records constantly for 24-72 hours. The events monitor is just that. It records events.

I had to wear both, several times.

The monitor is a small round monitor that attaches to a little holster. You hook small electrodes up to your chest (they just stick on). After placing your shirt on, you can't even see it.

When you have a symptom, you push the button and it records your event. Then when you can get to a phone, you call a number they give you and answer a couple of questions about symptoms you were having. They then instruct you to place the device up to the phone and push play. It plays a crazy symphony of noises through the phone, and they get a readout on the computer at their end. When the thirty days is over, they send the report to your doctor. If anything serious is going on, they will call your hospital for you and report it at that time or tell you to call your dr.

I'm glad that you are getting this taken care of. Hope everything turns out fine!

I've had to wear Halter monitors several times in the past - I have MVP (mitral valve prolapse) - did your doc rule out MVP? What you described happening to you is what happens to me when I have an MVP episode.

Let us know if you find out anything!

lol on "the something else" - cut me some slack -still recovering from brain surgery!

By Luvn29 on Saturday, May 24, 2008 - 02:01 pm:

I guess that is excuse enough! Teehee!

By Joy~bundles on Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 01:46 pm:

Just a quick update: The results of my x-rays, bloodwork, and echocardiogram all came back, and I am told that everything looks pretty normal so far.

I am wearing my events monitor and had an episode with my heart skipping on Monday evening, which I recorded and phoned in. I was told that these results came back normal, too.

On one hand, I'm glad that everything is supposedly okay, and on the other hand, I'm wondering what could be causing this!

I'm still having the head issues, with passing out for a second and feeling dizzy. I'm actually more concerned with the passing out than I am about my heart seeming to stop for a beat or two.

For now, the doctor wants me to continue with the events monitor until the end of the month to see if anything materializes, and then we'll see what happens from there.
