What's Up With The Birds?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: What's Up With The Birds?

I hung a bird feeder up with sunflower seeds and the Red Cardinals are loving it, I have a Finch feeder with a mixed seed and that is going over well too.

They will not come near my suet feeder, it's been up since the weekend and not a peck. I can't figure out why they don't like my feeder. :(.

Oh. I was hoping this would be a post about the bizarre antics of birds this year!

I have a bird who INSISTS on building its nest inside my garage on top of my garage door opener thingy. You know, the big box in the ceiling with the light which the chain runs through?? Yep, three times now she's managed to get in and redo her nest and three times we've removed it. She sits on the tree branch in the front and just watches for the door to get up. Does she not realize she will have no access to her babies if she continues this foolishness?? Our door is down for about 10 hours overnight and about six during the day, and off and on thruout the rest! Duh! That's a long time to be locked out!!

A friend has a wacko bird that is insistent on trying to get thru her glass doors and into her dining room....a blanket put over the glass did nothing. It's insistent on flying into the glass day after day....

Perhaps birds are all wacky this year and have also suddenly decided they don't like suet anymore??

Ugh, the birds are hitting my windows big time this year. My DS says "Mommy another bird just hit the window". I guess I should put something in each window to stop it but we live on a corner lot and all of our windows face the street and I just don't want the windows to look trashy.

That is a weird bird story, I wonder why she likes the garage so much?

Kate, have your friend hang empty pie tins by the windows. Those things flapping in the breeze scare them away....or they are supposed to anyway.

My MIL has the same problem. This one bird keeps tapping on her window. WHen she goes to the front of the house it goes to the front of the house and taps on the window. It's crazy!

I have a pretty wreath on my door. This morning I heard a noise and looked at my door (there is a little half circle window on it) there was a flipping BIRD on my wreath! That thing better not be thinking of making a nest there! I banged on the window and it flew away.

My birds are gobbling down my Kaytee songbird mix (mostly sunflower seeds)! I just filled it the other day and it's already nearly empty! There is a dog tieout, near my suet feeder and I saw a chickadee land on the dog tieout and eat the suet. Someone will eat it eventually!

I have a thistle seed feeder with seed in it from last fall. I think I need to empty out the seed that's in it, and start over with new seed. The finches are not eating it.

Gary bought some cheap birdfood that had hardly any sunflower seeds in it and it took a long time for those birds to eat that stuff. Picky aren't they? LOL! Sunflower seeds have lots of oil for energy for them, though.
