Should I call a doctor? (pms)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Should I call a doctor? (pms)

I have a weird thing going on with my stomach. I have gained a little weight but I'm not at my highest weight or anything and I've started working out again so that should help. For about the past 5 days my lower stomach-starting about the belly button- feels like lead. It feels heavy and poofy. When I bend over or sit certain ways it is uncomfortable with pressure. For about the same amount of time my breasts have been killing me! I'm due for my monthly so I think it could just be worse than usual pms. There has also been a little spotting. Has anyone else ever had bloating this way? Or had this while on the pill? What concerns me is that a feeling of fullness in the lower abdomen can indicate certain cancers but I don't have any other problems or risk factors.

You know if you are concerned just go and get checked, don't ignore your symptoms, it's probably nothing but you have nothing to lose by speaking with your doctor.

You may want to try to lesson your pms symptoms for next month, avoid caffeine and sugar for two weeks before your next period and see how you feel. If you are addicted to caffeine wean yourself off, I weaned myself off by drinking caffeinated green tea and then just stopped the tea after a week - no headaches this way.

Call the doctor and go in... It is likely nothing but you better check just to be safe.

you might even have a herniated belly button which is common for mommies.

Did you strain yourself or pull something during your dance competition?

BTW, Heidi, I was told by a doctor in Costa Rica that I had a herniated belly button. :( ugh

It could be Diastasis Recti, a separation of the abdominal muscles which is caused during pregnancy. Or at this point it would be called a Ventral Hernia, since it has been a while since you were pregnant. This would mean you didn't heal after your last pregnancy.. Which is not all that uncommon. the symptoms are....

# Lump in abdomen (may be able to be pushed back in (reducible hernia) or may be stuck (irreducible))
# Pain in abdomen
# Pain and tenderness over lump
# Abdominal distension
# Severe colicky abdominal pain

Call your doctor and get in.. They should be able to rule it out with a physical. The breast issues, might be your monthly coming on, but the abdomen issue does sound more in the line of a Hernia. With all your recent physical activity, you just might have aggravated something that didn't heal properly.

Well, thanks ladies! Duh! It never occurred to me I could have pulled some muscles with all my new dancing activities. Isn't that funny? I think my internet friends are more in tune with me than I am in this case lol! :) I might go in if it doesn't go away but that makes alot of sense. Thanks!
