Ugh! Gasoline prices

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Ugh! Gasoline prices
By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 06:47 pm:

A gas station I pass on my way home every day just went from $3.36.9 to $3.46.9, and usually my local station is about a month behind. As I drove around last weekend, the lowest price was $3.23.9, most stations were $3.29.9 and up. (I'm in SE PA.) Prices in New Jersey generally run about 20 cents less than in my area.

By Melanie on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 06:58 pm:

I'll trade with you...we're up to $3.80 for the cheap stuff. Ugh.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 07:05 pm:

Yikes, Melanie! Ours went up to $3.59 for Regular today.

By Tink on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 07:14 pm:

Yep, we're around $3.80 here too. Must be a Cali thing. I think it might be cheaper to fly to Santa Cruz this summer. :)

By Karen~admin on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 07:18 pm:

Ours is between $3.30 and $3.40............

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 07:18 pm:

I saw $3.45 today and thought that was bad!!

By Tarable on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 07:38 pm:

And I thought I had it rough.. it was 3.28 when I got gas this week. Not if it was yesterday or Sunday.

By Enchens on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 09:07 pm:

Yup, another $3.80 here.

Did anyone hear about the mistake at a BP gas station back east? It was 35 cents a gallon from 9am to 6pm. The mistake wasn't caught until the end of the day! Now why can't that happen at random gas stations across the nation on a regular basis? :)

By Tonya on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 09:35 pm:

Can you imagine filling up for less than $10 at .35 a gallon. Holy hanna I paid $3.35 gallon today luckily all of the other stations were at $3.47 I caught the last local before it raised.

But hey the top 2 gas companies had their best years for profit last year go figure right!!!

By Marcia on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 09:45 pm:

We buy our gas per litre in Canada, and right now it's $1.15/litre in Ontario. That's equal to 4.35/gallon. :(

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 10:02 pm:

$3.29 here, it cost me $75 bucks to fill up. :(

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 10:06 pm:

Our regular here is $3.38 this week, $3.45 last. :(

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 10:30 pm:

$3.39 to $3.45 for gasoline

$4.09 for diesel

Bleah

By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 10:35 pm:

And, to think, it's all PERCEIVED money they're collecting because of the unknown future in oil. I say it just forces us not to rely on foreign oil. Can't wait to buy a hybrid or another car that doesn't even use that!! :-)

By Jewlz on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 12:26 am:

bought diesel fuel for 439 a gallon and gas is 389 for cheap stuff ... calif

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 06:06 pm:

From April 11 to April 18 - one week - the prices went up from a low of $3.23.9 and a high of $3.46.9 to a low of $3.35.9 and a high of $3.56.9. A big jump in one week!

By Karen~admin on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 07:09 pm:

Over the past 2 weeks, it's jumped about $.20 a gallon around here. I found gas for $3.30 today and filled up.

By Hol on Friday, April 18, 2008 - 08:03 pm:

It is around $3.39 a gallon here in RI. Our local grocery store has a gas station and when you buy fifty dollars worth of groceries (which is NOT difficult), they give you a coupon for 10 cents off per gallon. You also automatically get 5 cents off per gallon if you swipe your grocery/savings card at the pump. So, I paid $3.14 a gallon yesterday. It cost me $45.02 to fill up. I drive a 2002 Ford Taurus. That should last me about eight or nine days, with going to work and consolidating errands.

I was afraid of the generic gas at first, but I heard on the radio that gas has to pass the same standards (in the US), regardless of brand. The only downfall is that you have to pick your times to go. If there are five cars ahead of you, you waste more gas idling in line, or restarting your engine everytime you move up. Not to mention the pollution.

By Paulas on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 08:15 am:

Parts of Canada are now at 1.34 per litre or a whooping 5.07 per galloon if I did the math right.

By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 10:34 am:

ARRGGGH!! $3.35.9 yesterday when I filled up - $3.46.9 today - same station. Glad I filled up yesterday but not looking forward to next week.

By Rayelle on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 12:02 pm:

$3.50 here. I don't know what we're going to do. Food is going up of course with everything else. There isn't much to cut back on.

By Paulas on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 12:17 pm:

It's $3.96 in Calais, Maine

By Hammockhugger01 on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 01:50 pm:

We can't wait until the new car comes out in the next year or two. I think it's Chevy or Ford. The car runs the first 40 miles on electric before it kicks in the gas. Then recharges the electric part by the gasoline engine, then kicks back to electric when recharged. My dh drives 30 miles one way to work. We could be gas free almost with this car. I am looking forward to not being gas dependent and seeing how the large profit oil companies like it then. Oh, and you never hear of these large oil companies doing anything for charity.

By Melanie on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 04:53 pm:

I can't believe how quickly the prices are rising. Yikes.

Here the last I saw it was at 1.26/litre which is 5.04 per gallon. I was lucky and saw it drop to 119.4/litre the other day and filled up then! It was up to 1.26/litre the next morning. :(

By Paulas on Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 07:31 pm:

I was wrong...Calais is $3.67 per gallon or .97c/litre.

It seems odd but us Canadians flock to Calais for the $3.67 gallon...beats the 1.20/litre here

By Colette on Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 09:34 am:

OMG Melanie!

I guess I got a good deal yesterday - $3.37 for full serve - in Massachusetts.
