Guess what DH and I doing?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Guess what DH and I doing?

We're taking Latin dance lessons! :) We started last Thursday night and will have the lessons throughout the month of April. We learned the rumba last week and we'll also be learning to tango, salsa, and cha-cha. DH and I were laughing the whole time! We're pretty terrible, but it was still fun. There were a lot of other couples there and many our age. I had figured it would be mostly retirees. After we master Latin dance then we have to do swing and ballroom. We really wanted to do swing the most, but it didn't fit into our schedules.

It's an amazingly cerebral task--counting and remembering which foot goes next, keeping your hips moving constantly while doing different things with your feet and not moving your torso at all, DH learning how to lead and me learning how to understand his signals, etc. We were mentally and physically exhausted afterwards. We also had to switch partners a few times and it's kind of awkward being "that close" to a perfect stranger. It was funny because one of DH's partners had a REALLY low cut shirt on and she was quite a bit shorter than him so he really had a birds-eye view. I said something about it to him and he said that her choice of tops made him have great eye contact the whole time. He said he kept repeating in his head, "Look her in the eye. Look her in the eye." LOL We were both relieved when we got to dance with each other again.

Sounds like fun! I took ballroom dance, in college and loved it. Did I marry a dancer, though? Unfortunately no.

Sounds great! I love latin dances - only wish *I* could do it! I have a friend who is getting certified in teaching ballroom/latin, etc. dancing. He loves it too! Are you guys going to be a part of any type of exhibition dancing after you complete your classes?

I didn't marry and dancer either, but I'd love to learn Salsa dancing and/or Hula dancing. I'm sure my dh would love to watch me, but he won't join me! lol

Pam, I hope you guys have a blast. :)

My dh and I took a general ballroom dancing class with our best friends and LOVED it! I think we laughed more during those hours than any other time in our lives. You must be having a great time.

That sounds like a lot of fun!

I took Country Line dancing classes in college. I know they are totally different, but learning to dance is fun!

That sounds like so much fun! This past Christmas, one of my son's gifts to his bride was a series of dance lessons that they would be taking together. I thought that was so sweet!

That sounds like a lot of fun. Dh and I have talked about taking a ballroom dancing type of class, but never have. Maybe when the kids are older... Anyway, have fun with your lessons!
