Per your advice, I'm opening up an ING savings account. My USAA (military bank) account is VERY convenient, but is only earning 1.5%, so you just helped me *double* my interest rate!! I just wanted to say thanks for the tip!!

ING does track the interest rate set by the Fed, so it has dropped from about 4.5 a few months ago to about 3.5 now, but that's still better than any other FDIC insured savings account I know of, and as good or better than most CDs that are less that 3-5 years, plus your money is available almost immediately without penalty if you need it (as when I pay my real estate taxes next month).
