Unbelievable

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Unbelievable

Dh recently went to a new company that is a startup and does not offer life insurance. So, I took out a policy with a insurance company. I just recieved our copy in the mail with 1/2 of someone elses application stapled to it. I have this man's birth date, ss#, driver license number, I know where he lives and works, his phone numbers, what he does, how many and the ages of his children, how much life insurance he took out, I even know his medical history. How scary is that? I just called the insurance company and I am waiting a call back - the agent was really upset - but now I am wondering who has our information....

That was my very first thought!!!! Geesh!!! Scary, and VERY unprofessional, to say the least. What happened to privacy laws? If I were you, I'd insist on speaking with the manager.

Did you see my other message RE: your pics?? Can you resend them to AOL??

Wow! That level of unprofessionalism is scary. I'd be worried about my information, too.

I feel like calling this man and letting him know. I could, since both his work and home phone numbers are listed on the application. The insurance co just wants me to mail everything back to them.

Yikes! Very scary! Gosh, I hope it's not the insurance company DH works for. LOL!

It must be the time of year for incompetency. Yesterday we picked up lunch at Arby's for a total of $19.22 and paid with my DH's debit card. The cashier said it wasn't going through---she had tried a couple of times and the machine kept saying "retry." So...we tried my card which we had just used a few minutes before at another store without problems AND we knew we had plenty of money in the back. She tried my card *a couple of times* and it wouldn't work either. When we got home we found out she had scanned our cards a total of 38 times!!!! So...over $700 out of our checking acct. had been placed on hold waiting authorization. This meant that although we had that money we didn't have access to it because the bank was holding it to wait for Arby's to authorize it. It took several phone calls and a few hours working between our bank and Arby's to get it all worked out, plus Arby's got our order wrong anyway. Long story, longer...I feel your pain Colette and I think I'd call the man too. Scary that your insurance company isn't more concerned.

I'll give the agent credit. She was VERY upset when I called her. She contacted the customer service department manager as well as her own manager. Dh is ready to cancel the policy.

Several weeks ago there was a big story here in Canada as several banks had been accidently sending confidential information to a scrap yard owner in the states. Worse thing...it had been going on for over a year! I think, and hope, they have it all figured out now. When it hit the news they started to pay attention despite the fact that the scrap yard guy had informed them several times!
