Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: New Years
By Kernkate on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 12:25 pm:

I was just wondering what everyone is doing for New Years Eve?
We are having a few friends over. Nothing big, just
some snacks, like veggie platter, taco salad, and some chips and dip. the kids enjoy getting the hats and noise makers out , they never make it till midnight tho.:)
My one good friends birthday is on Christmas Day and mine is tomorrow so we celebrate our b'days on New Years Eve.

By Breann on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 01:27 pm:

Some friends invited us to a party they are having. Not sure if we will go. Probably not. We usually don't do too much for New Years. Still recovering from Christmas :)

By Tink on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 01:35 pm:

DH has to work until midnight so he is just going to do his best to get off early so he can be home to kiss me when the year changes. That is what's most important to me anyway. The dks and I will probably make popcorn, watch movies, and bake cookies until they fall asleep. That's what we did last year and it was fun.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 01:37 pm:

We always go to my friend Edie's house! We eat supper, mostly made by her, but I usually bring something. After supper, we play games until midnight. Between our 2 families, we have lots of games. Then at midnight, we break out the sparkling apple juice and have a toast. At midnight, it is Edie's DH's birthday, so we always have chocolate birthday cake, too! Then we watch some of the tv coverage of the event and about 1 am, finally start heading home!

By Karen~moderator on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 02:09 pm:

Probably nada. DH has to work N Y Eve and N Y day. My sisters leave N Y Eve, so I will probably just be lazy!

By Boxzgrl on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 02:18 pm:

It's up in the air. I can't remember the last time I stayed awake until midnight on New Years Eve. DH wants to go to San Diego to the New Years Eve Gala thingy, basically like a club. You pay a cover charge and food and drinks are free throughout the night. Well see. It starts a 9, my usual bedtime! I'll have to see if that young Melissa is somewhere inside of me and ask her if she wants to come out and play. If not, we'll probably just walk the beach and have a romantic evening watching fireworks while my Mom watches DD at home.

By Unschoolmom on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 02:31 pm:

Sleeping. :)

By Lauram on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 02:44 pm:

Meat Fondue with the family. Shrimp cocktail for app. We celebrate New Year's in France (6PM) so the kids can go to sleep (even though they actually don't sleep until 10PM!) Wishful thinking on our parts- and there are no countries in the middle of the Atlantic!

By Amecmom on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 04:29 pm:

Waiting for the kids to go to sleep, then eating a meal we'll order in from one of the better restaurants in town and opening a very fine bottle of red wine. We don't like champagne much, so we bought a $50 bottle of wine that is supposed to be awsome. Can't wait to try it.

were going to the rose parade in pasadena calif. and stay up all night and then watch the parade the next morning then drive home and crash lol its always alot of fun!

By Colette on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 04:36 pm:

We are either having some people over or going to bed early so we can snowboard on New Years day.

By Annie2 on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 05:14 pm:

We usually stay home, then do fireworks with our friends across the street but this year we are taking the kids to Mobile. They have a stadium there which they are going to truck in snow. We'll be home around 9 or so. I hate being out late on a evening when I know many people are driving after drinks.
Then we may still do fireworks at midnight. We'll see.

By Kay on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 05:25 pm:

We trade out with bil and his family each year - this year it's our turn. We'll probably get pizza, and have lots of snacks, some movies...they have 4 boys, who will spend most of the time on the Nintendo or foosball table, and the only one we'll have in town will be babysitting all night.

By Marcia on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 10:34 pm:

Most of the time we just stay home. Some of the kids stay up with us. We got a game cube this year, so I'm sure we'll just have munchies and play games.
Sometimes my parents have a small party, and we go there. I doubt it this year, because I couldn't keep Emily and Chrissy up that late.

By Missmudd on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 10:37 pm:

We play monopoly w/ a bottle of champagne until we cant count right and declare a winner. Then we bang pots outside and then colapse into bed.

By Bea on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 11:02 pm:

Our next door neighbors will come over and we'll play some sequence. We'll get in the hot tub to ring in the new year if it's not raining.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 11:44 pm:

I will probably be up and on here... LOL Everyone else in this house goes to bed early. MIL is usually the latest and she is in bed by 10:30. Midnight is nothing to me. I am up until 2 most nights. I prefer to stay home. Will probably rent some movies and have snacks earlier in the evening...

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 02:03 am:

We will go to see my MIL since we didn't get to see her on Christmas.

By Jackie on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 06:10 am:

I dont ever stay up until Midnite. With a baby who wakes up at dift hrs of the night, Im usually in bed before 9pm.We have no plans on New yrs eve, we never do.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 08:06 am:

No plans. We'll probably be in bed before midnight. Such an exciting life we lead! LOL!

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 08:29 am:

My sister and her family are coming into town on Thursday. We are just going to my brother's house. We will put the kids to bed there, and just play games and stuff till midnight. At midnight we kiss and hug everyone and will be out the door by 12:30!

By Conni on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 08:46 am:

Nada...Staying home I hope and ringing in the New Years quietly by the fire. Maybe playing Yahtzee or Dominoes with the kids.

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 09:09 am:

We'll probably do the same as last year and have a nice dinner out with some friends, then go back to their house and hang out, eat, watch tv, drink champagne. They have newborn twins this year, so that will be our entertainment, LOL!

By Tunnia on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 09:34 am:

We are going to our neighbors house for New Years Eve like we do every year. She invites a few families from the neighborhood and she makes chili for the adults and hot dogs for the kids. The younger kids usually spend the evening playing with each other and the teenagers and adults play some sort of game. The past couple of years we've played Taboo although we are trying to think of a different game for this year. Then at midnight we all watch the ball drop on tv, then go out on the deck and watch the fireworks over the water (we live at a lake) and then go home about 12:30am. It is always a blast and even though we get invited to two or three parties a year we always choose to go to our neighbors.

By Rayanne on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 09:57 am:

NOTHING. We are just staying home. I might buy some drinks for me and Chris to have once Rylee goes to bed. Hopefully all the fireworks in our area won't wake her up, so Chris and I can bring in the new year our own "special" way.:)

By Debbie on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 07:57 pm:

We usually have pizza and play board games with the boys until they go to bed. Then dh and I usually share a bottle of wine. We either watch a good movie or the New Years Eve celebrations on TV. I don't think we have made it to midnight the last few years.

By Paulas on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 01:22 am:

We are having a few friends over and I'm making Seafood Chowder.

Last year DH and I made this huge Chinese Feast and then we were too tired from making it to eat it! :)

By Fraggle on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 08:38 am:

We stay home and make a bunch of appetizers for dinner and send the girls to bed at their usual time. Sometimes DH makes it to see the ball drop-I usually fall asleep. DH does not like to drive anywhere on New Years Eve.

By Cat on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 11:19 am:

We're not doing anything. We usually don't anyway. Maybe we'll watch the New York ball (with Regis this year) at 10pm our time and then all go to bed. Are we boring, or what?!?

By Kaye on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 01:13 pm:

We normally do a progressive dinner with our neighbors, I am sad to miss out on that. But this year we are camping with the cub scouts. They always have this campout the weekend after christmas, it just doesn't normally fall on new years. So we will have some apple cider, etc, probably be in tent by 10, fun fun..NOT. But the kids will love it!

By Children03 on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 02:05 pm:

I am having a party at my house. I can't believe I have the nerve to have one at my house. I have just been so busy, but I figured I would rather spend it with friends rather than sitting home alone. We are going to have a few platters of food and everyone else is bringing their own favorite snack to share. , we will probably play some games too. I bought horns and confetti shakers for midnight, it will be fun.
