Help! Icing for cookies......

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Help! Icing for cookies......

Anyone know a good recipe for cookie icing? I just realized I don't have any icing sugar and I am in the middle of making gingerbread cookies....

Can you make icing with regular sugar? Even a kind of glaze would be good...

confectioner's sugar
vanilla 1 tsp
a little bit of milk.

Don't know the amts off the top of my head (I'm at work)- but basically just mix the milk in the sugar until it is the right consistency. Then add food coloring for different colors.

I use the same frosting I use for cake.

3 cups confectioner's sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine
2-3 T. milk
1 tsp vanilla
Any food coloring you choose to add.

I use a pastry blender to mix the flour and sugar. Then add the milk and vanilla; stir until blended. If I'm really lazy, I use my mixer to mix it up!

Do you want the kind that dries hard?

ROYAL FROSTING

3 egg whites
1 pkg. confectioners' sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

In small bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy. Slowly beat in confectioners' sugar until frosting stands in firm peeks and is stiff enough to hold a sharp line when cut through with knife. Keep bowl covered with damp paper towel while working to keep frosting from drying out. Store leftover frosting in tightly covered jar in refrigerator. Use decorating tube to decorate sugar cookies.

Anyways...the gingerbread cookie dough is sitting in a big cold lump in the fridge......Kiko decided that yesterday was a good day to teeth and I basically had to hold him all day...

Maybe hopefully today I will make the cookies.....

Feona, I really didn't read the message. I just quicked typed my recipe! I didn't have much time yesterday. Yes, icing sugar is confectioner's sugar. Hope you get to the cookies today.

I think that frosting made with regular sugar would be a bit gritty.

Confectioner's sugar is also known as powdered sugar. I don't think making it with regular sugar would work. Unless you grind it into a powder first. (Hey, Martha Stewart would! lol )

I forgot to add that with my recipe add a bit of oil too. I just did it last night. I don't really measure. A bunch of powdered suger. A bit of oil. A tsp or so of vanilla. Add milk a little at a time until it is the right consistency. It's very yummy icing!

You can make powdered sugar in a food processor. Simply process granular sugar on high until it is powdered.
