Gift ideas for a mom...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Gift ideas for a mom...
By Mrsheidi on Monday, December 20, 2004 - 01:43 pm:

My husband's new boss and her wife are having their second baby any day now. She is planning on having a scheduled C section but lately she hasn't been feeling too good and feels it might come sooner.
It's their 2nd child...what is a good gift for the 2nd one? They don't know if it's a boy or girl.
TIA!

We didn't know the sex of our second child either. The gifts we liked best were the savings bonds we received for him. We already had all the baby stuff since he was the second child and clothes weren't a good option since we didn't know the sex. You can get a $50 savings bond for $25, I think and put it in a nice card with a note wishing them well.

How far apart are their children? They *might* need baby stuff.

Diapers are always appreciated. :) I usually get a jumbo pack and wrap it in a baby blanket (those fleece one are nice!) and tie a rattle on it with ribbon. Bonds are a great idea, too.

How about a gift certificate to a baby store? That way when they know the gender of the baby they could get what they need for clothes, etc..

Her kids are about 2-3 years apart...I had to go to Target today so I just got them some stuff there. (Target has everything! I even got some of those recommended mouse traps too! LOL!)
I had a C section and I remember what I needed in the hospital too, so I got stuff for "mom" as well!
Thermal heat pads
Ibuprofen
Chapstick
Pads (Hope she'll appreciate those...I don't know her, but I think every woman doesn't like to shop for those!)
Lotion
Intuition Razor- Great for shaving if you're in a hurry or if you're tired.
Pedicure board/overnight lotion- Gosh my feet were in terrible shape by the time my ds was born!
A swaddle blanket (yellow/green)
A portable tiny trash bag dispenser for dirty diapers while on the go.

Hope they'll like it! I think I'll get some beer for the dad too! ;-)

That sounds nice :) I am sure she will like all of it.

I loved receiving savings bonds for my kids. I thought that was so nice and I never thought of doing it until someone did it for my kids. Now I do that quite frequently for other people!

That is nice of you to think of the mom. When I was in the hospital with my 2nd someone brought me a newspaper and a soda. That was my favorite gift! Chapstick is always good :) If it were me, I wouldn't give the pads. But that's just me. I know I would be a little embarrassed to receive them. Especially from someone that I'm not close with.

I always love shopping for baby things :) I just wish they didn't grow up so fast!

I receive a cotton outfit from one neighbor. I don't know what they are called. It has long sleeves and long pants and it is all in one with easy changed snaps.

I really thought it was very nice. It was a carters. It was yellow.

For 2nd and 3rd babies I like to get them photo frames you can engrave (with their name, bdate, time of delivery, weight, length). Just pay for the engraving in advance and the Mom/Dad can take it in to be engraved after the baby is born and they have all the info.

I also like to give photo albums, baby book, gift cert for baby pic's to be taken, silver spoon, silver rattle, etc...

And last but not least-- make them dinner and send it over for when they get home from the hospital. Someone brought us dinner for several days after coming home from hosp (after c-sect). It was sooooo thoughtful and soooooo wonderful. I cant even begin to tell you how much I wanted to kiss someones whole entire face for doing this for my family.

Also, if there are other children I like to get them something very small as well. (hot wheels car for a boy / beanie baby for a girl, new book, etc)

Providing dinner is great, especially for a second baby and especially after a C-section! We don't eat fast food much but I think we ate more of it after coming home from the hospital each time than we did in the year leading up to it! A gift for the big brother or sister is good too. I know my dks always appreciated it.
