My BAD BAD kitten!!! :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: My BAD BAD kitten!!! :(
By Janet on Monday, December 20, 2004 - 10:55 am:

The girls and I heard a loud crash this morning, and I ran downstairs to find my BAD KITTEN had jumped up on a shelf and knocked down my dh's grandmother's antique hurricane lantern... of course, the globe was so fragile it had shattered into a gazillion shards, all over the living room rug. Oh! I cried and was so mad, but everyone with a cat knows that unless you get them immediately, they can't figure out the punishment or yelling... I said a few words in front of dd that I shouldn't have, but I am so upset!! Dh will be livid as well. I want my cat back! I don't like kittens!!!! :(

Sorry! Maybe things will get better with your kitty...but there's no replacing that antique :(

That really is to bad. My dog tore up the Raggedy Ann that my mom made me when I was a little girl a couple of weeks ago. So I understand how you feel. I cried in front of my kids. My ds was so sweet about it. He talked about it all day and was worried about me. He said he was going to ask his grandma to make me a new one. I hope your kitty gets better. As for me my dog now has a crate!

Kittens will be kittens! They're like toddlers, only they can jump onto high places. I'd suggest some "kittenproofing" to prevent further mishaps. Sorry about your lantern. {{{HUGS}}}

*sigh* I know... I don't hate her, I'm just so frustrated. I also know that this will pass, and kittenhood is just a phase (like a toddler). It's just a constant stream of, "NO Maggi! Stop it! Don't! No!" at our house these days. It's exhausting. And if I were to kittenproof the house, we'd be sitting on boxes with nothing else. There is absolutely no place she can't get to. At least toddlers learn... kittens have fur for brains!

Argh. What a pain. I'm so sorry you lost the lamp. :( Sunday morning we were all out and when dh and the kids got home our dog had pulled down my dining room curtain (it's a swag that goes through four brackets) and chewed through the corner of a box my mom had sent (Christmas presents). Thankfully, nothing was damaged too much (a little hole in the swag and a pulled tie on the no-sew blanket my mom had sent), but we've decided we're getting a kennel for Lucky. He chewed up a container of wipes Saturday. Just when we think we haven't left anything out he can mess with, we're always wrong! He's a little bugger! Oh, and also Sunday morning, one of the cats had knocked down a fake plant off the top of the bookcases downstairs (thankfully, if it had been upstairs Lucky would have destroyed it!). Six foot bookcases!!! Yep, I agree--cat's have fur for brains (and so do some dogs!).

When my cat was a kitten she did that. My mother had gone to Ireland, back to the small little town her parents had come from. She found a second hand type store there and bought me a beautiful set of antique dessert plates. I had them, and my Virgin Mary Hummel on a runner and the stupid cat jumped up, got her claws caught in the runner and broke everything.

Did the lantern itself break or just the globe? You can usually pick up replacement globes - it won't have the same value but at least you can still have it out.

i have a dog and 2 cats one is a kitten. you all may try what we did with the dog though. we keep her in the kitchen with a baby gate to stop her from going around the house when we are gone. the kitten though is a little harder they really do have fur for brains but maybe some toys of her own will help her. just ideas. :-)

Well the globe broke, but it was a very old-fashioned one that said, "Home Sweet Home" in cross-stitch looking print. I've never seen one like it.
