Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: I'm home from surgery!!:( OUCH!!
By Kristie on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 - 05:06 pm:

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on Friday. The Hysterectomy went good. They found endometriosis on some nerves and that is why I was haveing so much pain. Then came the bad part, I was in the recovery room for 3 and a half hours cuz they couldn't find me a room!! I was crying, "somebody help me, I hurt so bad!!" My dh and mom were in the waiting room trying not to kill somebody. Thne when they finally found me a room this really mean nurse thought I could just hop right over to my bed!! Dh almost knocked her out, she got written up. Then once I was in my room everything went really good. I got to came home Sunday night. I am in soooooo much pain. I know it is a healing pain but oh my gosh it hurts so bad. My incision is about 4-5 inches long but it looks really good. dh has been waiting on me and ds is being awsome!! They have me on a estrogen patch called Climara. I'm gonna look up stuff on it when I'm done here.
Any way I just thought I would tell you how I was and let ya all know I'm alive.

By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 - 06:07 pm:

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 - 06:51 pm:

I hope you feel well soon. And I hope you rest as much as possible and please, please, please, don't lift, don't carry, don't bend, be careful on stairs, and (remembering from my own abdominal incisions) try not to laugh.

And, most pain medications are constipating and constipation can be very, very painful right now, so think about either taking a fiber tablet or a stool softener every day.

I'm glad the surgery went well, and very glad your family was with you. I strongly believe no one should undergo surgery or be in the hospital without someone with them to advocate for them, as with the nurse. I'm glad she got written up.

Ditto Ginny about the lifting/carrying/bending, but DO move/walk around. You will start to feel better quicker if you do. BTDT, got the Tshirt! LOL

I hope you start feeling better soon!

They wanted you to move to the bed yourself? I worked on a surgical floor and we always transfered people to their bed from the gurney. I can't believe that! No way would I have wanted to hop into bed after my c-sections! Yikes!

By Kristie on Monday, December 20, 2004 - 08:49 pm:

Thank You everyone for the warm wishes. I loved you re-card Amy. It was very thoughtful for you to go out of your way to do that. I am feeling alittle better. Dh has been awsome around the house. He has made the best dinners and has been takeing care of ds at home and at school. He went to Polar Express with the school and then rollerskateing on Friday. He has even been makeing me my coffe and doing a fantastic job at it given the fact that he dosen't drink it himself and has only watched me make it.
I weent to me post op appointment on Friday and the Dr. said they found adrometriosis (bleeding of the uterine wall), fibroids, cysts in and out of my ovaries, extreamly inflamed cervix, and endometriosis on my pelvic floor that was wrapped around nerves. So it was a very good thing he took EVERYTHING out. I am on the estregin patch and that seems to be going ok. I do have some lovely hot flashes and the night sweats are crazy!! I wake up soaked sometimes. My dh and I make fun of the daytime hot flashes, and we laugh at my "emotional moments". (not to hard though cuz it hurts bad to laugh!) All in all I seem to be recovering really good. It really helps that I have all the support I have at home and on here. Well I have to lay down for awhile. My mom took the kid till Thursday (his B-day he'll be 6) so I am gonna sleep for 3 days!!:) I'll check in again soon. Thanks again everyone!!

Wow! I'm so glad that you had this taken care of so quickly. Those are some really painful issues on their own, much less piled on top of one another. It sounds like your dh is being a prince and how nice of your mom to take your ds so you can have some time to really recuperate. Enjoy your rest!

By Amy~moderator on Monday, December 20, 2004 - 11:02 pm:

You're welcome. :) I was just thinking of you and decided to send you a card.

I'm glad you have so much help! That is wonderful to have family there to help you.

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 06:55 am:

Seems like things are turning out well, all in all, and I am so glad for you. It certainly sounds like you had almost everything wrong that was not cancer, and certainly explains all the pain you have had. I agree, it is a good thing they got everything out, and that it was taken care of relatively quickly.

When you are able to give real hugs, give your dh a hug for me. As a non-coffee drinker myself, I know how fraught with trepidation I feel each time I make coffe for someone else. And to do Polar Express AND roller skating, plus cooking, childcare and housework - heck, he's almost being a mom!

Enjoy your three days of sleep - you do need it.

Good news on your recovery and glad too they got rid of all that stuff that was giving you trouble. WOW, you had a load of stuff going on.
