Yucky bug going through our house

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Yucky bug going through our house
By Dawnk777 on Thursday, December 9, 2004 - 09:41 pm:

On Tuesday morning, DH tells me he had thrown up during the night. He slept downstairs, so I had no clue. I had already been feeling nauseous myself. At 10:30am, I could barely stand being upright, so I called in sick to my school job and my clinic job. Around 2pm, I had a rapid exodus of material out of my body. Yes, both ends, but not at the same time. Ugh. Although, it did make me feel better to finally throw up. So, Gary was blobbing on the basement couch and I was blobbing in the bedroom. I pretty much spent the whole day in bed. Then woke up during the middle of the night, unable to sleep any longer, since I had slept so much during the day on Tuesday. Then drove my kids to school on Wednesday and felt all wiped out, just doing that. So, at 8:30am on Wed, called in sick to both my jobs again! Then I took about a 2-hour nap Wed morning and felt SO much better. Today, I was fine and went back to work.

Tonight, after school, I notice that my 15yo looks really tired. She doesn't always go to bed as early as she probably should, so we attributed it to that, although, in the back of my mind, I wonder if she is coming down with something, too. She barely ate at supper and usually she has a good appetite. So, we take her to driver's ed class and everything seems okay. At 7:30 pm, we get a phone call. I'm sick and want to come home. Poor thing, she had thrown up in the driver's ed classroom! Ugh.

So, she is watching tv upstairs in my bed, in her jammies, since we had to wash the clothes she had on. So, she is the third person to get this bug now! Hopefully the 12yo stays well now! It's a good thing we got this now and not right at Christmas!

Poor things, all of your family, I hope you get it out of your system and don't have to worry about it again this season. :)

I hate it when the whole family ends up passing around a bug, especially a flu bug! I hope that Sarah is up and around soon. I know my dks bounce back from these things faster than I do now.

Yeah, things shouldn't travel through each of us so quickly!

There is a nasty stomach bug going around, and it is particularly hard on young children. The family of one of my bosses got it Thanksgiving and he spent the weekend nursing his wife and 4 year old triplets. One of the triplets wound up in the hospital with pneumonia and dehydration. For older kids and adults it seems to be not as bad - just vomiting and misery for a couple of days. Sorry for you and your family.

Yuck! Hope it passes quickly.

Oh Ginny, that poor man. It didn't last quite that long for my husband and me!

Dawn, I'm glad you're starting to feel better - take it easy, so you don't relapse! This is definitely the worst time for that sort of thing - hope your younger dd doesn't get it.

I am glad you are feeling better. Here is hoping your 15 year old gets feeling better quickly & your 12 year old stays healthy.

By Bea on Friday, December 10, 2004 - 12:52 pm:

I hope that bug gets through his rounds quickly and leaves you poor folks. I'm so sorry!

(((Dawn)))

I am dreading what you are going through. That IS quick though.I was hoping it would go quick through our family too so we wouldn`t have to miss my DH`s family`s christmas next Saturday.
My DD and I missed it last year because she had the flu bad then every week a new family member got it.
Well I wish you all a speedy recovery. My ds Zack finally ate something today he hasn`t thrown up again but he has bad stomache cramps

Well, Sarah was better today. Emily is still fine. Gary and I are much better, so I think we have made it past this one. Phew!

Sorry you felt so bad,but glad its over.We have a upper resp.infection type thing going on around here.Dh had it all this week, now I've got it.My youngest gd Abby,8 months old,has has a virus called hand, foot, and mouth virus since Thanksgiving. She's been running a low grade fever, and has sores in her mouth and on her feet and hands.I have never heard of this, but her ped.said it is a baby/toddler type illness and she will be fine.I thought at first they were talking about the disease that cows get, called hoof and mouth disease!!

Everyone is well tonight! The 12 yo hasn't gotten sick. I think the bug is gone. Phew! We got our tree today and got it all trimmed!

Dawn, that sounds like what I had a few weeks before vacation - mine lasted about 4 days. Luckily the reset of my family didn't get it.

I hope everyone's on the mend and feeling much better soon.
