How do you get bumps out of a rug?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: How do you get bumps out of a rug?
By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 04:00 pm:

We recently moved and was able to make our living room rug into our dining room rug. Well, at our old house, the couch "bunched up" a part of it so it looks like it's got a kink in it...ugh. Anyone ever straighten a rug?

By Cat on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 04:03 pm:

You could try steam cleaning it, or having it done. It should eventually loosen up and flatten out. :)

I remember reading somewhere that an ice cube would help with that. I have no idea if it's true or not though.

The ice cube will help with the crushed rug fibers, but not the backing. I'd just lay something really flat and heavy on that area for awhile. Do you have one of those old fashioned flat irons? The super heavy black things people used to heat by the fire and iron with? That would be a good start.

Not sure I have anything that heavy...i could try to find something though! i wonder if i could just steam it myself? (can you picture that? ugh)
