Pay it forward and wonderful things happen!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: Pay it forward and wonderful things happen!
By Yjja123 on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 09:58 am:

As you all know I am a firm believer in "what goes around comes around" and karma.
Today it came around to me.
I have been wanting a Kitchen Aid mixer for a long time. John came home last night and said we were going to the mall to look at mixers. I printed up 2 bath & body coupons for free lipgloss (buy something get free lipgloss) and we headed to the mall. At the bath & body store I picked up another item for my sisters gift basket and got my free lipgloss. Jessica wanted blueberry spray (very strong)! and she bought it with her allowance. With each purchase you get a $10.00 gift card good only if you are purchasing over $35 worth of stuff...so Jessica and I picked out some unsuspecting people and gave them the cards. Jessica gave hers to an elderly woman who seemed to be having a hard time choosing a gift basket (likely she was shocked by the cost). The woman gave Jessica a great big hug. I gave mine to a man who looked equally troubled. He said "Are you kidding me? Is this real? Oh man you just made my day. Merry Christmas!" You would have thought I gave him a load of money. So anyway we did our good deeds got some yummy smelly stuff and headed to Burdines.
Burdines had my mixer on sale. John said he was getting it. I hemmed and hawed because it was a lot of money (on sale $240) but he convinced me and he took it to the register. The salesman looked at me and said "So you are getting a Christmas gift huh"? I said yeah. He had heard John and I discussing buying it and said "Well,it is $240 on sale and you get an additional 20% discount." We said what? He said "Yep! You deserve it. Merry Christmas! If anyone asks you are my family." So I will have my dream mixer for Christmas (John is wrapping it) and we got it at a great price because a stranger did a good deed to us.
What goes around DOES comes around!

That made me tear up, too! :)
Enjoy your new mixer. You'll love it. Now for your birthdays and future Xmas presents you can ask for the attachments! They are well worth the money also.
What color did you get?

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 10:21 pm:

It is RED!
I would love to have all the Kitchen Aid appliances in red :) LOL
My dining room is a 50's diner (booth and all) with Coca Cola memorabilia so red is perfect.
I have wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer for the past 11 years. My mom has one and it has lasted forever. I remember making so many great things with it. My daughter loves to cook so I know we will be making lots of things with this one. It will be so much easier than the hand held.

I love my KitchenAid mixer. I got one for Christmas the first year I had been totally on my own! I was thrilled!

By Conni on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 10:14 am:

The first yr my sisters and I were all married--Mom and Dad gave us all one for Christmas. Mine is the blue. Mom still uses hers and she has had that thing since I was a kid! We used the heck out of hers and it still runs perfect.

No matter how much you spent on it, it will be WORTH the money.

Great story!! and congrats on such a nice christmas gift. ;) It's one of those gifts the whole family will benefit from. :)

That's such a sweet story! I always say good deeds come back to haunt you. It makes me want to take my mixer out of the cabinet it's been in since I got married! I really admire all you moms who actually bake ...

Thats a great story and you are going to LOVE your mixer. I know I do.

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 12:57 pm:

Hubby let me open this last night as I still have a ton of baking to do.
For those of you with this mixer, I have a few questions...I made cream cheese sugar cookie dough in my new mixer. Couple problems. It made the flour fly everywhere even with splashguard and going slow. The beater has to be removed by pushing it and turning--thus getting dough all over my hand.
1) what did I do wrong with the flour?
2) is there a way to get most of dough off besides using spatula?
Helpful hints please :)
Yvonne
PS---I still love it! I just need to learn how to use it.

By Conni on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 05:23 pm:

I have the flour guard thing too. I have a habit of gradually adding the flour little at a time, after that gets mixed in then I slowly add a little more flour. I still end up with a mess sometimes tho. :)

As for the beater... I am not sure about that one. I guess I usually dont have dough up around the top of my beater when I go to remove it. One thing I do is lower the bowl and let the beater run , dropping some dough off of it before removing it. Did that make sense at all???? Oh myyyyy, I need a breaky wakey!

Enjoy!!
