What are your kids asking for for Christmas?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: What are your kids asking for for Christmas?
By Bellajoe on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 02:34 pm:

My dd wants Polly Pockets, a pink dress to play dress up in, and a brown barbie horse with white hair (a bit specific, huh?) She also wants Disney PRincess stuff for her room.

I ended up getting her a Princess mirror for her wall, and Disney Princess decals for her wall also. I am also looking for Disney Princess bed sheets.

I'm not sure what my ds wants. He just had a birthday and got most of what he wanted. I think he wants a play guitar.

What are the big, exciting gifts at your house this year?

By Tunnia on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 02:40 pm:

My dk's both want bean bag chairs, Mooshi pillows, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkeban dvd, Shrek 2 dvd. My dd wants some music cds, Lincoln Logs, and a sewing kit. My ds wants puzzles, tinker toys, and games.

We don't have any requests for big ticket items this year. I credit that to the fact that we cut their tv viewing down to about 1/2 hour a day and Nickelodeon is no longer allowed on our tv (because of the constant commercialization) and they have not begged for any of the newest, high dollar, fad toys this year. It has been so nice!

By Ladypeacek on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 02:42 pm:

well this year i have taken a different route with my daughter who is 9. I have decided to give her a new theme for her room..we are going with groovy chick stuff. Not sure if they have that back home in the states but its really cute. With it she has a motion sensor and doorbell to keep her brother out...lol!! then we have the wall decor and bed spread. She hadnt really asked for much other than drawing supplies. So we got her that too. My son is getting the madna doodle pro and the super quiz (similar to leap frog) and hot wheels. For the rest of the family we are doing a real christmas spirit thing and making all the gifts!

By Yjja123 on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 03:01 pm:

My kids are only allowed to ask for 3 things. This is what they asked santa for

Son:
Drum set---I am asking for earplugs :)
Playstation driving wheel controller
SpongeBob complete series on DVD

Daughter:
TV/DVD
Polly pockets
American Girl book series

By Palmbchprincess on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 03:14 pm:

We are probably in our last year of "ignorance", since they still don't really "get" Christmas. We bought them the Step 2 Sand and Water Activity Table, some dress up items, some cars for DS, a tea set for DD, and a couple of small stocking stuffer toys. We told al the relatives to get them DVDs, coloring supplies, and since my mom usually sends them a "big" item, I asked her to get them art easels, or a table for their room to dram at.

By Janet on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 03:23 pm:

My dd is at that "everything I see I want" stage (she's 9), but we are cutting down this year, so I'm being pretty particular. She's getting a clock radio and a butterfly chair, some books and a couple of CDs. She wants one of those "no-pry diaries," but I don't think they're worth the money. Older dd (14) wants beads for her doorway, a new personal CD player, some CDs, books, and "new and exciting earrings." LOL Nothing big ticket this year--thank goodness!!

By Rayanne on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 04:42 pm:

Rylee is getting a swingset from my family and DH's family. I can't wait!!!!! Chris wanted to wait until next Christmas, but I talked my way into him getting her one this year. We are going to fence in our backyard next week. I am so excited!!!:)

By Christylee on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 04:46 pm:

Brendan just wants "spiderman toys"... I haven't found anything that just wows me honestly. All I've seen are for older kids. Anyone know of any?

Christy

By Andi on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 04:47 pm:

DS: Rescue Hero Command Center, Imaginex Pirate Ship and a few other small items.

DD: Care Bear from DS, Fisher Price Big Block and a couple other Fisher Price Toys and of course some Discovery Toys. :)

By Trina~moderator on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 06:00 pm:

DS (8) sat down and wrote this the other night, but only because I strongly encouraged him to do so. Everyone was asking for ideas but I had none. LOL!
1. The Incredibles PS2 game
2. NCAA March Madness PS2 game
3. A RC remote control car
4. A basketball

All DD (6) has been asking for is Love Me Chou Chou. However, she's easy to shop for and likes typcial girly things, minus princess stuff. LOL!

By Tink on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 06:12 pm:

DD (7): CD player, several CD's, Care Bears, Love Me Chou Chou, a puppy, more and more "art stuff" and several hyped-up toys that won't be making an appearance. This one has the gimmees this year.

DS (5): Hot Wheels Slimecano Race track, Backyard Skateboard for the PS2 or the computer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle playsets, Shrek 2 DVD

DD (3): InteracTV, new books for the LeapPad, baby stuff (always wants baby stuff), Strawberry Shortcake playsetand more dress-up slothes

By Paulas on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 06:31 pm:

I'm thinking about getting DD (8) Hillary Duff tickets. I just found out she is coming to the nearest big center (6 hours away) on January 7th. What do you think? It would be a big surprise for her.

By Unschoolmom on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 06:36 pm:

DD (6): Dinosaur cards that have some gimmick by which you can see their skeleton, Ant Farm, hot wheels set, microscope, Polly Pocket stuff.

DS (3 in a month): Only just getting the hang of talking so no requests but I'm guessing anything to do with Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, cars and trains will do.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 07:08 pm:

Sarah wants mostly cds. Emily wants Breyer horses and art stuff.

By Boxzgrl on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 07:13 pm:

DD is getting a tricycle, table and chair set, lots of baby einstein and leapfrog stuff and crafty type stuff. DH and I are being "Ignorant" (thanks for the word Crys :) ) this year and not buying her anything since the extended family buys her way too much! If she needs anything after Christmas, we'll get it then. But last year there were too many "double" presents.

By Tink on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 07:22 pm:

Christy, there are spiderman toys meant for toddlers that my son loved when he was a little younger. Now they even have a big playset! They are bigger and chunkier, like a Rescue Hero, so they balance better and they make the Hulk, Captain America and SpiderGirl. They are great and I haven't been impressed with many of the regular Spiderman toys.

Paula, my dd(7) loves Hilary Duff! I just wasn't sure if her show is appropriate for girls this age. Let me know what you decide.

Does any one know of some really fun "tween" CDs. I'm getting my dd the newest Kidsbop CD and the Hilary Duff CD but I don't know what other artists are okay for her. Any suggestions?

By Pamt on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 07:37 pm:

DS (10) wants a stereo and a real Swiss army knife with lots of gadgets

DS (8) wants Under Armour undershirts (LOL, but he really does), game cube games, and a new football

The big ticket items are the stereo for oldest DS and the youngest is getting a Green Machine that he has no clue about.

By Beth on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 07:42 pm:

Christy, I bought the Spiderman and friends Playset. That Tink is talking about. It says it is for toddlers but my ds 6 wanted it. I don't think it looks babyish. The people are just chunkier and really hard to find. They are abundant in spidermans but not the others. I had to go to the stores everyday for awhile to get them and I am still short another one. My dk's are getting this as a combined gift becausen they both wanted it. They will get games, books and clothes for the rest of there items.

By Debbie on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 08:08 pm:

oldest ds (age 6)
1. A basketball game for the basement (like the ones they have at the arcade)
2. An Imaginex Castle
3. Legos

youngest ds (age 4)
1. Imaginex Pirate ship
2. Hot Wheels track
3. Incredibles remote control car

My brother is giving them a playstation. I am sure that will be a BIG hit!

By Kaye on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 08:52 pm:

Debbie we got both the castle and pirate ship last year for my ds (1st grade this year), I hate those toys. I really wish I had gotton the playmobile ones instead, these stupid things fall apart very easily and aren't as friendly to play with the people. If he is into building, they are great, but my boy likes to build and then play with them.

By Melanie on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 09:24 pm:

DS #1-Madden '05 for playstation
DS #2-Rollershoes
DD-Hasn't asked for anything more specific than "presents". LOL. But we got her a My Twinn doll. :)

By Bea on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 09:35 pm:

I bought a new dryer for our DS and DIL and a new nail gun for our DS the builder. Big KIds Big Gifts. We got Felicity The American Girl Doll for Nichole

By Christylee on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 09:43 pm:

Thanks Cori and Beth, I'll have to check it out.

Christy

By Kate on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 09:57 pm:

DD-8 She's getting the Quantom Pad and books, and some board games like Life, Upwords, and Boggle. An American Girl book set, and the Little Women DVD.

DD-4 She's getting the Leappad and books, and lots of markers and paper. I'd like to get her a cd player because those Playskool tape recorders/microphone things don't work well. A Little Bear DVD and a kid Christian CD.

Question: How do you divide the stuff up between you and Santa? I mean, once you divide it up, it makes both you and Santa look really stingy!! I have this trouble every year...everything together is plenty, but technically it's not all from Mommy and Daddy! Does Santa only give one gift in your house? Or do Mommy and Daddy only give one gift? Then I always have to give a gift up for the sibling to give, too. The pile diminishes!

By Trina~moderator on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 10:08 pm:

Kate, Santa only gives one or two gifts per child in our house. Mom & Dad get the kids one or two gifts each. We've toned things down quite a bit because it really does get overwhelming when you count all the gifts they get from relatives as well. This year DH and I decided to get one big combined "family gift" - A multiple game table (pool, ping pong, air hockey, etc.). Sure made shopping a lot easier!

By Insaneusmcwife on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 10:15 pm:

Ds age 7 wants:
ninja turtle action figures
yugi-oh everything
dvd's
Playstation games
video now (color)
poke deck (pokemon)
Bionicle toys

Dd age 3 doesn't really understand asking for things yet. She will want things when we are in the store but as soon as she sees something else she likes she doesn't want the last thing she was looking at anymore.

I haven't even started shopping for my kids yet. And I won't until after the 15th when I get to Texas, thats less I have to worry about on the airplane.

At our house, Santa only brings one gift and the stocking stuffers.

By Vicki on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 10:22 pm:

Dd's big wants this year include and american girl doll and a playstation2... some other smaller things, but those are the big deal to her!

By Mrse on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 10:55 pm:

Well they gave me the list, cell phone's x box, chicken soup teenage soul, makeup, dvd's, and cd's.

By Monicamomof3 on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 11:01 pm:

I just found this website. You can't beat the prices! abcpublishing.com
Try it! Maybe you will find something for cheap!

dd-5: bed tent, cheerleading skirt
ds-3: cars, trucks

By Pamt on Monday, December 6, 2004 - 11:26 pm:

Santa brings 3 gifts each at our house, symbolic of the 3 gifts presented to baby Jesus by the wisemen. DH and I give one gift, plus they get a new ornament and pj's that they open every Christmas Eve. How could I forget our big family gift? Here she is:

Montana

She's an 11 month old HOUSEBROKEN, spayed, and microchipped purebred basset hound from a local resuce group. I met her today and she's such a sweet baby girl. :)

LOL we do eaxactly opposite of pam, santa brings one gift to each child and fills the stocking. We give three gifts to represent the gifts from the wiseman. My kids get so much stuff anyway that I try not to overgive. Also I wanted to take the focus off santa, yes we celebrate the spirit of giving and santa represents that, but I didn't want it to be a huge out of proportion thing. My kids each only ask santa for one thing, makes that job pretty easy.

By Feona on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 08:30 am:

Oh my gosh. He wanted a volcano flowing lava shooting hot wheels. Everyone says it is a big horrible mess. Can't imagine....

He got cyborg hot wheels instead. Car eatting monster.

By Feona on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 08:31 am:

This is the review of it. Doesn't it sound horrible?

My son got this for his birthday. It took an hour to put together and then we had to find a car that was light enough for the launcher to propel the car all the way up. Almost all Hotwheels cars do not work and we have hundreds. Then the cars get stuck in these tight corridors. Plus there is the mess of the slime. Once you put it all together, it says that it shouldn't touch carpet, clothes, furniture, walls, just about everything. This is a lot of money and it is not worth it. Do not buy!!!!

By Debbie on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 11:30 am:

Feona, my ds also wanted the Volcano flowing lava shooting hot wheels track. I told him no way!!! I also ended up getting the Cyborg hot wheels track.

By Tink on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 12:25 pm:

MY ds wanted this too! What is it with these boys? You'd think they liked making a mess or something! We just ended up getting a basic track that he can set up anywhere and make his own loop-de-loops and ramps.

By Cat on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 12:53 pm:

What my kids are asking for and what they're getting are two very different things! Robin has a big screen plasma tv on his list. HUH??? Yeah, right. lol They're both asking for and getting the new Nintendo DS (newest Gameboy) and a few games they want. We've still got to get stocking stuffers and some little stuff. We'll do that this weekend. :)

By Cybermommyx4 on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 - 11:46 pm:

DS's are all getting Nintendo DSs as well - we bought one for each of them, and three extra to sell on Ebay to try to take *some* of the sting out of paying for the other three, lol! DD is getting clothes,make-up, a new MP3/CD player, a massaging foot bath thing (as a gymnast, her feet get sore and ROUGH - she's been wanting one of these for a while :)The rest will be just little stuff we find - we haven't finished or decided yet.

By Fraggle on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 09:53 am:

My oldest DD (5) has the "I wants" this year so I had her narrow her list down to four items-she chose:
a princess nightgown
a princess bathrobe
a baby in a bathtub
fashion designer set (if anyone remembers fashion plates from a long time ago that is what she is asking for-I found them in a retro-toys catalog)

my youngest DD (3) hasn't really asked for much
the only thing she keeps saying is a bunny house-it is a soft portable little house with bunnies and soft furniture in it.

As a joint gift the girls are getting a V-smile system. My DH chose this gift for them.

By Conni on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 10:08 am:

Welll, like Cat, what they ask for and what they get are 2 different things! lol The older they get the more big ticket items they come up with.

DS 12.5:
electric guitar and lessons (that isnt happening--my Mom offered to let us borrow her acoustic guitar and he can learn on it), dirt bike helmet (@ $190.00 that wont be happening), Cell phone ( i think we can make this one work 'pay as you go' phone. he gets to buy his own minutes ;) ), black leather coat, Dallas Cowboys Jersey, contact lenses

DS 11:
(just got a computer for his bday last month) Desk, chair, bookcase, Harry Potter DVD, Gamecube wireless ctrl and game

DS 4.5:
dirt bike, 4 wheeler, motorcycle, care bear, *real* bow and arrow, magic trick kit, elefun game.

DSS 22: oh just new furniture, aquarium, and 100 other big ticket items...

ugh...

By Rayanne on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 10:16 am:

Well, the swingset that we found for Rylee is way too expensive so now, she is getting Baby Einstein stuff and The Little People stuff from us. Next year, maybe she'll get her swing set.

By Happynerdmom on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 - 12:28 pm:

This year is *big-ticket-item* year for us...we got an XBOX for them to share, then 14-year-old dd is getting an iPod mini, and 11-year-old ds is getting an electric scooter. The rest is little stuff...CD's, books, etc.
