HELP!!! Hiccups!!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2004: HELP!!! Hiccups!!!!
By Rayanne on Saturday, December 4, 2004 - 12:10 pm:

I've had these darn hiccups for ever now. They won't go away. I've taken deep breaths, drank water, ate peanutbutter, had a teaspoon of some sugar. I've tried just about every remedy I can think of, and nothing is working. I feel like I am going to be sick if they don't stop soon!!!!

Well, I guess I just needed to post them here because now they are gone.
Momsview...the new cure for hiccups.:)

Funny...I just thought Momsview cured insanity and insecurity! Glad they are gone, I hate the hiccups!

WEll i know they are gone now but i will tell you what works for me...hubby thought i was nuts but it works for him too. Get a glass of water or milk...basically anything non carbonated. Get a big mouthful and then laying on your bed on your BACK hang your head over the side and then swallow it. LOL sounds silly but it pushes those air bubbles through.

Kenna, that is so funny because I did that except I satnd up and put my head between my legs and hold my nose and plug my ears. It didn't work though. I will try laying down next time. Thank you. LOL.:)

I pant. :) Breath in and out really fast for a minute or two and it always works. I listened to something on the radio years ago about how a hiccup works and thought up the panting idea thinking it would address the problem. It does.

What Dawn(Unschoolmom)is talking about is hyperventilating. I have read that you should do this real fast breathing for a minute or two, but into a brown paper bag. The thing is, you are breathing carbon dioxide (which is what we breathe out) and it changes the breathing mechanism and is supposed to cure hiccups. I never tried it because the spoonful of sugar always worked for me.

I'm glad they stopped - people can actually get really sick with long-term hiccups and have wound up in the emergency room with that problem. So no wonder you were feeling sick.

I take a deep breath and hold it for as long as I can. Always works for me!

My kids swear by a spoonful of mustard! It seems to work for them...

Next time, take a deep breath, take a big drink of water and swallow while holding your breath. It sounds hard to do, but it really works.
