Who is going out of town for Thanksgiving?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Who is going out of town for Thanksgiving?
By Trisa on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 09:04 am:

We are leaving tomorrow and won't be
back until Tuesday. Hunting is huge in my family
and hubbys is going the first day with my family.
I am very excited this year about Thanksgiving!
My grandma is having over 40 people over, some family members I have not seen is years!
PLus my dad has NO CLUE we are coming. This will be a huge surprise for him when we show up!!
Another thing I am excited about is that my hubbys family always goes shopping on black Friday. I have never gone with them and am excited to be able to this year! Yes it will be a mad house BUT its an all day shopping trip with NO KIDS!!!!!! I hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

This is going to be the calmest Thanksgiving yet. The furthest were going is to the in laws and thats 45 minutes away. Were going to get there around noon, leave about 6 or 7 and relax at home. I'm not up for the holidays this year.
DH used to hunt but my agreement to marrying him was that he give up hunting. Hid Dad temporarily disowned me since it was a big family tradition but soon after he got into offroading with sandrails and now hes given up hunting for that. So, i'm a part of the family again, lol!

I am so excited about Thanksgiving! I can't wait for all of the food. But secretly I think that I am most excited about having only a 3 day work week!!!!

We're leaving Wednesday night to go stay at my parents which is 2 hours away. We're having Thanksgiving dinner with my in-laws and then dessert with my family. Thankfully they live within 5 minutes of each other. My mom and I are going shopping on Friday!! And then DH and I are heading out to see my friends from college for a night out and some catching up. We'll probably hang out with our family on Saturday and leave for home sometime on Sunday.

Since tomorrow is our Anniversary we will leave tomorrow afternoon to drop the girls off at Dh's sisters house (2 hours away) and go out for the night. We are then spending the night there and visiting a while on Thanksgiving morning, then we will start heading back home and stop by some of my family's house. Not really a long trip but we're still leaving for a while, it will be nice to not see the same surroundings. :)

All of our family, lives here. We never travel. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing.

By Children03 on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 11:17 am:

We don't travel either. All of the family is pretty much here. Sometimes, I wish we could travel though, just to get away.

By Colette on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 11:40 am:

No traveling here. Everyone travels to my house.

By Amy~moderator on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 11:53 am:

Colette - good for you! I HATE traveling for the holidays!

We are going to visit my mom and dad about 5 hours away in the New Orleans area. Can't wait to see them! We leave tomorrow morn.

We are driving a whole 20 minutes to my sister-in-law's house! LOL!

By Janet on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 12:13 pm:

We're taking off on Thursday morning for Mom & Dad's (11 hour drive...oh boy!), and will eat on Friday. My oldest dd is going to her dad's (the other direction :( ) but then will drive with her step-grandparents to where we are on Sunday (a happy surprise for my parents, who don't get to see her very often)! I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait to see my mommy & daddy!!!! :)

By Cat on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 12:22 pm:

We're not going anywhere, but that's okay. It's a 2 1/2 day drive to Michigan and 3 days to North Carolina. Randy wants to have a "feast" (his word!) this year, so I'll enlist the boy's help and we'll have it! We'll have enough leftovers to last probably until Christmas, but that's okay, too. I'm looking forward to five days off and enjoying my family. :)

By Kernkate on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 12:34 pm:

We are having a nice quiet Thanksgiving right here at my house with our kids and my dad. Since my in laws have passed away and my mom there is really not a big family left. I am an only child and DH's family never wants to cook, so I decided I am not going out of my way and I think it will be nice to be home and enjoy the kids. DS will be home tonight from college, and it will be quiet time for all of us.
Hope whatever everyone is doing you have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

We're leaving tomorrow morning to visit my parents in Virginia. Oh yes, can't wait to spend 8 hrs. in the van with the kids. "Are we there yet?" "How much longer??" "Are we there yet?" Over and over again... LOL!

We are traveling to my in-laws, about four hours away. This is the first year in a long time it hasn't been here! But the nice thing is that we will then be leaving all the kids with them while dh and I go and have a weekend alone together. Now that is something to be thankful for! :)

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 05:09 pm:

My family isn't getting together, but that's okay. Many Thanksgivings, we have tried to eat 2 meals and it's hard! I don't mind going to only one Thanksgiving meal.

I will see my family at Christmas time and that will be soon enough.

Actually, we will be seeing them briefly on Saturday. They are taking the 5 grandchildren to Milwaukee to see The Christmas Carol. Then taking the kids out to eat. They said the rest of us could join if we chose. It's a restaurant, called Noodles, that I have never been to before, so I want to go!

By Jelygu on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 08:50 pm:

Our family lives near us, so we don't travel.
We are going to my husband's step-dad's parent's house (if you can follow that one!) for lunch, and then my mom's house for dinner.
I love the holiday's, but I hate trying to squeeze in seeing everyone in both families... sigh, I'll get plenty to eat!

By Colette on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 09:19 pm:

Amy - I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving -I decided a long time ago, that is was MUCH easier to have the holidays at my house (so the kids could have their toys and their routines - no naps being disrupted) rather than drive all over the place to mostly people who had no little children in their homes. Now everyone loves to come. I keep it informal and fun. No stress, my mum makes sure everyone helps clean up and it's really just always a great time for everyone - I think anyways, they keep coming and bringing people.

By Amy~moderator on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 - 07:16 am:

Colette - sounds like everyone enjoys spending the holiday at your house! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow :)

By Janet on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 - 10:15 am:

We are having our first snow! Of course, it had to happen when everyone is travelling. *sigh* We don't leave until tomorrow, so maybe it'll settle down a bit by then. Everyone who's travelling, BE SAFE!!!!!! :)
