So proud of my DH! :)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: So proud of my DH! :)
By Pamt on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 02:48 pm:

My hubby has a youth retreat this weekend and has been planning it for months. He does this the weekend before Thanksgiving every year, in addition to a spring retreat, mission trips, youth camp, etc., etc. His birthday was Thursday so the boys and I drove an hour yesterday to give him a little surprise party this weekend. Several of the adult volunteers decorated and I made enough cake to serve 150 people (never again-LOL). It's just always neat to see him in his element. He has never had 150 youth attend an event before, but he's so good at what he does it gets bigger and bigger every year. He was a nervous wreck with such a large group, but even with the speaker arriving late, a Bible study leader not showing up, torrential downpour, and problems with the sound system, he had teenagers coming up to him the whole time I was there to give him a hug and thank him for putting it all together for them. He is so good with teens!! He can meet a teenager and within minutes have jumped past the "what grade are you in, what school do you go to?" small talk and straight into their struggles and dreams. He loves them all so much and they sense that and know it's for real. He's not "cool" and doesn't try to act like them. He just honestly cares for them and they sense that. He's always getting cards and notes from current and former youth (married with kids---yikes!) about how he has impacted their lives in major ways. He also leads them into better understanding God and their faith and he writes all of his own Bible studies and retreat materials. Very proud of him and just had to brag! :) He'll be coming home tonight exhausted and worn-out and it will take him a week to recover, but it's all worth it.

I am in awe of you and your dh! You have such a great relationship and both seem to be doing a great job of helping the people in your corner of the world. Congrats to your dh. He sounds like a great guy.

Knowing the not so good youth minister we have- I feel a prang of jealousy!

I wish we had him!

Pam, I've worked with the youth in our church (just helping out, not leading) and I know how exciting AND exausting it can be. God has truly given your husband a gift and I'm SO thankful he's using it to the capacity he is!!! Kids are so worth it. Give him a huge pat on the back from me. Hugs to you, too! Being a minister's wife is no picnic either! :)

Good Job to your DH, that is quite a skill to be good with teens, lol! :)

That is wonderful Pam. You have every reason to be proud. You know, I had a youth leader in high school that really had a positive influence on my life. I will never forget him.
