I got a Dyson!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: I got a Dyson!
By Cat on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 11:04 pm:

Dh and I ordered it the other day from AAFES online (had a coupon, plus they had the best price we found, so double savings!). It came tonight and I just tried it out. I had just vacuumed yesterday morning and you wouldn't believe the fuzz, hair, dirt and YUCK it picked up!!! Now, yes, we have two long haired cats and yes, people walked on this carpet all day yesterday and today, but HOLY COW!!! Just gross. Even the Fed Ex guy said he's going to come back in a week or so to see how it works! lol This is the 5th or 6th vacuum we've bought since we got married over 12 1/2 years ago. We've never been satisfied with any of the others. We'll see how this one goes, but with first impressions and all the reviews I've read, I think I've found "the one". Gosh, who'd have thought I could get so excited over a vacuum cleaner! rofl Do I need a life or what??? Just wanted to share my excitement! :)

By Kate on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 11:11 pm:

Um, are those the bright yellow vacuums that feature the inventor on the commercials? I get excited about vacuums, too, actually! However, I'm wall to wall hardwoods so I really don't have just cause to buy anything fancy. Until recently I owned SIX different vacuums, despite my hardwoods!! So I really DO see why you're excited! Have fun with it!

By Tink on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 11:27 pm:

Oooh! I am so jealous! I would love one of those but we just bought a new vacuum before I started seeing those commercials. Let me know in a couple of weeks if you are still happy with it and maybe *something* will happen to ours so I can buy a new one. *EG* I can hope!

By Palmbchprincess on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 12:47 am:

Ooooh! I am jealous too! I would *love* to get one, but the price tag is way too big for me to swallow right now! I can't wait to hear how it works, because if it last longer than a year or 2 I think it is really worth the money!

By Vicki on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 08:46 am:

I have a thing for vacumms, so I understand your excitment! I have an Oreck right now and love it, but would love to try one of the Dysons just to see how my Oreck is working!!

By Melissa on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 05:00 pm:

I 've had one for a year, it rules!

By Cat on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 05:27 pm:

I like hearing that, Melissa! Kate, yes, they're the yellow ones you see ads for on TV. I'll let everyone know after a month or so how it's working. Man, I'm so pathetic! I'm actually looking forward to vacuuming tonight! rofl

Yahoo for you! I'm sooo jealous! Please keep us up to date. My dh showed me the purple one in Best Buy the other day. It was called The Animal. It was around $499.
We have a Simplicity whcih we bought almost two years ago. It works great but has been in the shop a few times already. The shop gives me a free rental while it is being serviced. A nice perk for me since we have dark carpets and three pets that shed. Ours is under warranty but that ends in Feb.
If you have to have it serviced where would you go?

By Tunnia on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 10:20 pm:

My best friend just bought one a little over a week ago and she can't say enough good things about it. She even made me come over to her house the other day so she could show off all of it's bells and whistles. I want one now, but I just bought a new vacuum last year so I'll have to wait.

By Cat on Sunday, November 21, 2004 - 11:38 pm:

Well I decided to wait until morning to vacuum because the cats always get hair on the carpet in the dining room and right in front of the couch over night. Another bonus--it's quieter!!! I frequently vacuum in the morning because first of all, the reason stated above, and second, I'm a morning person and I'd rather do it at 6am than at 10pm (I know, I'm strange). But I do have one parent that's allergic to cats, so I really try to have the hair cleaned up so it doesn't bother her as much (and her son is a toddler so he would end up with it on his clothes). It moves so easily and even though it weighs over 19lbs, you'd never know it!!! Here's their website, and you can compare the four different models somewhere on there. We did and decided we didn't need the extra gadgets the others came with. The basic model has all the attachments we think we'll need. Dyson If we do decide to get the extras we can always order them for about the same difference in price.

Tunnia, that's too funny about your friend showing her's off to you! lol I can see why, though! :)

i have a animal one the purple one and i love it have had it for eighteen months now and i love it wouldnt use nothing else but it its totally worth the price and i have nothign bur praise for it !!!! totally awesome

By Bellajoe on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 05:11 pm:

I''ve wondered how good those things are! I have a Hoover and i KNOW it doesnt clean well. I will be checking out that website.

My dh won't agreet to buying a new one unless something happens to the old one first. Of course men don't get excited about vacuums like we do. But if it's quiet and easy to manuever and sucks up all the gross stuff, then SIGN ME UP!! :)

By Jelygu on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 07:40 pm:

I think those look so cool... but like Kate, I'm all hardwood (except the bedrooms) so it is to pricey to justify! Enjoy!

By Jewlz on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 08:18 pm:

forgot to mention this but my son did a compare test like they say they do on tv ... lol we had fun ... we got a oreck from the hotel he runs farly new ... a kerby and a my sisters from sears it is purple too but not as much and i cant remember the brand it was a hundred fifty dollars .. anyways he vaccummed up with each of them a hotel room and then went over it with my dyson it won hands down and embarrased the rest. the amount of dirt that the dyson picked up is so much more than u can even imagine. he then showed the owner of the hotel the results and he is considering buying two for the hotel ... thats all that is needed cuz its small one ...

I went to the website and now i really really want one! I love the fact that you can sweep the steps easily. Is it true tat you can just pull out that hose and walk up the steps with out the whole vacuum cleaner falling down?

I told my dh i want a Dyson now and he said that he just bought a shop vac, and told me to use that! MEN!! They just don't get it, do they??

By Cat on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 12:33 pm:

A SHOP VAC??? lol Only a man...

I'm still loving it. :) I never would have thought I'd actually enjoy vacuuming! (shhhh. Don't tell dh! :) )
