Christmas presents!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Christmas presents!
By Janet on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 09:41 am:

My 9 yr old dd wants everything in the toy catalogue and on TV... my 14 yr old dd can't think of anything she needs/wants, except for a CD, some dance equipment, and beads for her door.
Ack! Any cool teenage girl ideas? And any ideas for "weaning" the younger one from her big dreams of mountains of presents?

Is the 14 a girly-girl or more tom-boyish?

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, November 20, 2004 - 10:00 am:

Is she into DVD's? What about some of those cool lights for her bedroom? There's a place online that has them - something like Cool Stuff Cheap.

When I was that age, I wanted stuff for my room, clothes, or music.

Very girly..she's incredibly particular about her looks and is also quiet. She loves volleyball, music and ballet, reading and writing. Christian music tops her list.

Based on your post I would get her books, journal items, gift certificates to clothing stores she likes to shop at, tickets to see the Ballet, CD's... Definitely get her the beads for her door! LOL My ds and I just looked at those at the mall yesterday. :) Perfume, trendy jewelry, cell phone or beeper if she doesnt have one already.

Ok I am done now. lol!

Thanks! :) Good ideas

Since day 1 I have told my kids they could only pick out 3 things that wanted. They always end up with a lot more but are only allowed the ask for 3 things. They put a great deal of thought into those 3 things and it has worked out great. I have also noticed a lot of the other things they get (that they mention prior to deciding on the 3 items) are not things they play much with.
We also choose a family get away for a weekend instead of any majot gifts.
Good luck!

Janet, just in case you need some ideas, the favorite Christian groups among our youth these days are:

The David Crowder Band, Jeremy Camp, Switchfoot, Reliant K, Bethany Dillon, and Nicole Nordeman to name a few.
